Street Libraries

Street libraries are community-led initiatives, which spread the joy of reading with visitors and locals alike. If you have ever wondered what they were, or wondered how to start one, here’s the scoop! Over the past few years, a growing number of Street Libraries have been popping up across Randwick City. Affixed to brick walls, standing on posts, tied to front gates, their brightly painted exterior inviting passers-by to pause on their journey and peruse the harlequin collection of books housed within. Local street librarian Lisa McCutchion takes great joy in curating her street library on St Marks Road, Randwick….

Monday's Mum Profiles

This Weeks Local Mum, Shelley Millingen

Hello there, I’m Shell, and I’ve been calling the Eastern Suburbs home since 1994 when I first set foot in this colourful corner of Sydney. It’s the heart of my story, now shared with my two wonderful kids. My journey here has been as diverse as the Eastern Suburbs itself. For 15 years, I was immersed in the world of jewellery, showcasing my creations at Bondi and Paddington Markets. Each piece held a story, but life has a way of evolving. In 2018, I discovered a new calling at OzHarvest. When I first joined as a volunteer, my initial project…

Randwick and Waverley Councils promote Float to Survive message this summer

Randwick and Waverley Councils are joining forces again this summer to help reduce the record number of drownings in Australia by encouraging people to “Float to Survive”. When the mercury rises, it’s time to grab your swimmers, hat and sunscreen and cool down in the tranquil waters along our stunning coastline. We picked five of our favourite spots to keep cool this summer. 1) Snorkelling in Camp Cove Camp Cove Beach is one of those ‘secret’ spots that locals would love to keep all to themselves but we think it’s too special not to share.
