Randwick residents divert over 30,000 kilograms of tricky-to-recycle items from landfill using free home recycling service

Residents in the City of Randwick have taken recycling to new heights with the help of an on-demand home collection service for problem waste.  Randwick City Council partnered with Sydney-based startup RecycleSmart in September 2019 to offer free recycling subscriptions to local residents.  The service known as a ‘Power Pickup’ offers all residential addresses in the Randwick LGA on-demand collection of tricky-to-recycle items: items that are recyclable, but cannot be recycled when disposed of in any of the household bins (i.e. soft plastics, e-waste, clothing, and misfits such as batteries and bulbs). In the month of May, residents surpassed the…

Monday local Mum, Cintia De La Torres

This week we are chatting with Cintia De la Torres, who not only works in the family owned cafe, The North End Café in Maroubra. She also works as a Chemical Engineer in the Future Energy space focused on Hydrogen generation and storage. Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east? I’ve been living in Australia and in Maroubra for 15 years. Three words that describe what it’s like to live in the eastern suburbs? Beach, Surf and Sun (for me is a lifestyle). How many children? I have 2 children, Melina is 12 and Marvin is 10….

Cruising is Back! Where Should You Cruise To First?

It’s been more than a minute since we’ve all travelled, and a while since we’ve felt comfortable booking trips and family holidays ahead of time. Luckily, we are now welcoming back travel and maybe you’re making plans to book time away with your family. With the return of travel comes the return of cruises around Australia, which we are super excited about. A change of scenery and having something to look forward to works wonders for the entire family, so why not consider cruising with P&O Cruises. Their family-friendly cruises offer great value, and there are heaps of onboard cruise…

An approach to dental health that puts an environmental smile on the planet

Australia’s first subscription dental care system – set to reduce the 50 million toothpaste tubes and 30 million toothbrushes going to landfill each year! Dental products undoubtedly need a major environmental makeover – from toothpaste tubes made from sheets of plastic laminate and a thin layer of aluminium to toothbrushes made from polypropylene plastic and nylon. These products are all difficult to recycle through conventional methods. Reshaping dental care in Australia, Dsmile is an exciting new sustainable oral health product on the market. From the outset, the Dsmile kit was specifically designed to reduce, reuse & recycle. The Dsmile kit…

What To Do When You Get Working From Home Injuries

Working from home as a mum allows you to be part of your family’s routine throughout the day. You get to interact with your children during tea and lunch breaks. Of course, work-from-home mums don’t have unlimited sessions with their families but their moments are flexible enough to create and spend quality time with their loved ones. As a parent, you can also save on childcare costs when you work from home.  Inasmuch as remote working comes with many benefits for you and your company, it’s also not free from challenges. For instance, you can still get injured while discharging…

The secret benefits of dance

Dance costs a lot…but it isn’t expensive. It’s an investment. Plus when you include the uniform, the shoes, the costumes and the tickets, it’s even more. But it’s not expensive, it’s an investment and it’s worth it for the benefits of dance. The skills and lessons learnt in dance classes are invaluable in your child’s life. Over the past 25 plus years of teaching ballet I have seen children grow into the most spectacular humans. I sincerely believe their journey through dance contributed to this. First, there’s the obvious benefits – musicality, posture, coordination and, well, the ability to dance!…
