Coogee Beach closed after unknown debris found washed ashore

Sydney’s Coogee Beach is closed until further notice after Randwick Council Lifeguards this afternoon, Tuesday 15 October, discovered mysterious, black, ball-shaped debris washed along the length of the beach. Randwick City Council environmental officers have collected samples for testing and reported the incident to the EPA and Beachwatch NSW. Council also said on Instagram that it had checked other beaches and only Coogee was known to be affected at this stage. The Instagram post shows that the balls leave a grimy residue when handled and advises beachgoers to avoid the area and not touch the material. Council is investigating the…
