For mums and other members of our community working in healthcare, emergency services, policing or the military, finding time to switch off from the demands of the job isn’t always easy. Frontline Yoga at the Anzac Memorial offers a welcoming space to do exactly that — and classes are completely free for frontline workers.
Held in the peaceful auditorium of the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, the weekly yoga classes focus on resilience, strength and connection, with beginners very much welcome.
And you don’t have to be a frontline worker to take part. Members of the general public can also attend by donation.
Supporting the People Who Support Our Community
Frontline Yoga provides free classes for people working in roles that can involve significant levels of responsibility, pressure and exposure to stressful situations.
Classes are available free of charge to healthcare workers, paramedics, police, emergency service personnel, military members and veterans.
For Eastern Suburbs mums working in hospitals, healthcare, emergency services or other frontline professions, it could be a particularly valuable opportunity to dedicate an hour each week to their own wellbeing.
The general public is also welcome, with attendance available by donation.
Yoga Designed With Frontline Workers in Mind
These aren’t classes where you need to arrive already knowing your downward dog from your warrior pose.
All classes are suitable for beginners, with clear instructions provided throughout the session.
Frontline Yoga’s classes are trauma-aware and culturally informed, with a focus on helping participants maintain resilience, strength and connection.
The sessions may be particularly suitable for people experiencing ongoing stress and those looking for a gentle, supportive way to incorporate movement, breathing and relaxation into their week.
There’s also something appealing about the simplicity of it: one hour, once a week, in a calm environment away from work and everyday responsibilities.
A Peaceful Setting Inside the Anzac Memorial
The location makes this yoga class particularly special.
Classes take place inside the air-conditioned auditorium at the Anzac Memorial, at the southern end of Hyde Park.
The Memorial is a place associated with reflection, remembrance and service, making it an especially fitting setting for a program created to support military personnel, veterans and the many other people serving our communities today.
Equipment is provided for participants, making it easier to attend without having to bring everything into the city.
An Hour to Reset After Work
Classes run on Tuesdays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, making them well timed for people finishing work in or around the Sydney CBD.
For Eastern Suburbs residents commuting home through the city, it could also be an opportunity to stop for an hour before heading home.
Rather than moving immediately from a busy workday into the evening rush of dinner, homework, family commitments and everything else waiting at home, the class provides a dedicated moment for movement and quiet.
Beginners Are Welcome
One of the biggest barriers to trying yoga can simply be worrying that everyone else will know what they’re doing.
That’s not something participants need to be concerned about here.
The Frontline Yoga sessions are specifically designed to be accessible to beginners, with instructor Mark providing clear guidance throughout the class.
You don’t need to be particularly flexible, experienced or already practising yoga regularly to attend.
The emphasis is on participation and wellbeing rather than performance.
A Wonderful Free Wellbeing Initiative
We love sharing free activities with the Eastern Suburbs Mums community, but this one has an especially important purpose.
Our local community includes countless mums, dads and family members working in hospitals, ambulance services, policing, defence, emergency services and other demanding frontline roles.
Programs that create accessible opportunities for those people to look after their own physical and mental wellbeing are well worth knowing about.
And because the wider community is welcome to attend by donation, you can also support the initiative while enjoying the class yourself.
