Did you know as an Eastern Suburbs resident you can received subsidised worm farming and composting equipment delivered straight to your door? The Compost Revolution was founded by Randwick, Woollahra and Waverley Councils in 2010 with the intention to minimise the amount and impact of waste being sent to landfill. Over 10 years on, the program has seen great success with a large uptake amongst locals. Since its inception, several developments have occurred, including recently with the addition of a number of new products now available.

These new products include an enclosed worm farming system known as ‘The Cube’ which is perfect for apartments, balcony gardens or courtyards and can be kept inside! Tumblers of varying sizes can be purchased with dule chambers to add and cure the waste, as well as any additional extras you may require including stirrers and worms. Trusty favourites including the traditional Compost Gedye Bin and Worm Café are also available. Composting and worm farming has several benefits for the planet and human health. It not only reduces the volume of waste sent to landfill, but it also minimises the emissions associated with transportation and processing of this waste. Additionally, the compost created is nutrition rich, benefitting the garden and reducing the need for often toxic pesticides and fertilisers. Finally, it is important to mention, composting and worm farming is a great learning activity for kids, thus involving the whole family and inspiring the next generation.

If you would like to learn more about composting or worm farming, you may wish to watch attend a workshop hosted by the Council. These are run throughout the year with the next hosted for Compost Awareness Week next month. Click the link below for more information about these events:
