From Capybaras in Clay to Brainrot and Kandinsky, this holidays Waverley Woollahra Art School (WWAS) in Bondi will open its doors to yet another generation of young artists with an offering of art workshops for primary and high-school students. For many children and teens the non-competitive and self directed nature of art classes provides welcome relief from the academic pressures of school, busyness of modern life and doom-scrolling on social media. All programs at WWAS are led by practicing artists, with a new range of programs introduced each holidays.

This April we launch a half-day format for our teens classes, allowing students to try two different artist-led classes each day. Teens programming includes an Inca Treasure Bead workshop, Drawing for Fashion Design and a Skull-pture workshop. In addition, a new program of textile arts including visible mending, sashiko and sustainable fabric collage will be led by artist Jacqueline Curry.

We are delighted to announce our April artists:

Kassandra Bossell (sculpture and installation)

Cristelle Cabrera (ceramicist)

Jacqueline Curry (textiles design + digital art)

Philippa Hagon (expanded painting, sculpture, and installation)
Caitlyn King (ceramicist)

Olivia King (print making)

Machiko Motoi (ceramicist and performance artist)\

Natalia Vojovodic (painter)

Classes run in both the morning and afternoon. When you book in for both sessions, students have a supervised lunch break with our friendly school holiday team in our lovely garden (weather dependent).

For students who wish to continue art-making into the term, our afterschool and weekend children’s program is something to look forward to each week. We have both ceramics and painting/drawing/mixed media classes for children and teens. The latest addition to our term time program is the Teens Open Studio, which provides a more individual and independent space for teens to develop their own artistic practice, create works for a folio and pursue their passion for art under the tutorage of artist Jenny Ryan.

Located in the heart of Bondi in Waverley Council’s School of Arts building on Bondi Road, many parents who grew up in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs will be familiar with the school which was established in 1968. Share a picture of yourself at WWAS as a child and tag us @waverleyartschool to receive a 10% discount on a workshop for your child this School Holidays!
