New Randwick netball facilities opened

Thousands of netball players and families across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs will enjoy improved facilities at Heffron Park in Maroubra, with a brand-new amenities building now officially open.

The modern facility has been delivered through a partnership between Randwick City Council and the NSW Government under the Level Playing Field Program, providing upgraded amenities for one of the region’s busiest sporting venues.

Heffron Park

Supporting One of Sydney’s Largest Netball Communities

Heffron Park is home to the Randwick Netball Association, which has almost 5,000 members and welcomes more than 10,000 players, families and spectators every Saturday during the netball season. It is the largest participation sport in the Randwick local area.

The new amenities building has been designed to better support players, officials and visitors while creating a safer, more inclusive environment for women and girls participating in community sport.

What’s Included in the New Building?

The new amenities block features a range of modern facilities, including:

  • Large team change room
  • Dedicated female bathrooms
  • Five unisex bathrooms
  • Accessible (DDA-compliant) bathroom
  • Referee bathroom
  • Sports equipment storage room
  • Council storage room
  • Building plant room

These upgraded facilities will provide greater comfort and convenience for players, coaches, officials and the thousands of families who spend their weekends at Heffron Park.

A Boost for the Whole Community

While the new building has been developed to support Randwick Netball, it will also benefit the many other people who use Heffron Park throughout the year.

The park is Randwick City’s largest recreational reserve and hosts a wide range of sporting activities, community events and the popular Heffron Park Markets, held on the third Sunday of each month.

Investing in Women’s Sport

The project reflects the continued investment in community sport and facilities that encourage greater participation for women and girls.

Member for Maroubra Michael Daley said the upgraded amenities will make it easier for more people to get involved in local sport, while Randwick City Council highlighted its commitment to providing quality sporting infrastructure for the community.

Randwick Netball Association CEO Jenny Morrissey welcomed the opening, saying the new building provides players with modern, safe facilities that will support the association well into the future.

A Great Outcome for Local Families

For many Eastern Suburbs families, Saturdays at Heffron Park revolve around junior netball. The new amenities building is a welcome addition that will make game days more comfortable for players, officials and spectators alike.

Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, coaching a team or enjoying one of the many community events held at Heffron Park, these upgraded facilities are another positive investment in one of Maroubra’s most important sporting and community hubs.
