Tell us about Kin & Kind?

We offer daytime events (workshops, creativity sessions and regular meet-ups) for parents, where you can learn a skill (or brush up on old ones), talk
about what you love, meet new people and spend time focusing on something other than child-rearing.

Our broad range of 90 minute workshops and meet-ups cover everything from creative writing, gardening and craft to career guidance and personal development.

We’ll make you a coffee and most importantly, childcare is offered in the same building (for an extra fee). Children 0-4 months are welcome to join the
classes.

Why did you decide to start this up?

As much as we love to Open Shut Them, we all need the occasional respite from rhyme time and baby gym. Surely we’d all be calmer, happier, more enthusiastic
parents if we could just squeeze in a little adult time during the week.

That’s why we decided to start Kin & Kind, to help parents rekindle the passions and interests they once had but have lost in the fog of babies, kids
and home, in a safe and supportive environment.

We want people to leave feeling energised, with a sense of achievement that’s unrelated to the kids.

We both feel that since we’ve had kids, it’s been a daily challenge to balance being a ‘good-enough’ mum with keeping our own life rich, rewarding and
non-sleep-deprived. Being busy people, working freelance, struggling with the house of cards of childcare arrangements… we just wanted to make it
easier for carers to stay connected (parenting can be a really isolating experience!) and in touch with all the world continues to offer.

What are the best things about it?

We offer a really broad range of workshops and meet-ups so there’s surely something that will pique your interest. Also, one of the main issue for parents
accessing “me-time” is availability of child-care and having to negotiate the time.

Our on-site crèche means you learn in one room, while the littles are having their own fun in another. We’ve created a fabulous creche service (available
for a small fee) with qualified carers and a dynamic program of activities.

Why did you choose Bondi Junction?

We spent a lot of time checking out all the different council venues from Redfern down to Maroubra, and then a spot came up working with One Space on Bondi
Rd (66 Bondi Rd). Their space is lovely plus it has room for the kids!

If we have larger workshops/events we can also access the gorgeous room downstairs at ONESPACE. I like that there’s heaps of free parking, we’re on the
bus route and there’s a park right across the road!

Tell us a bit about you….

We met when our then three-year olds became besties at daycare and over many avocado cheese sandwiches, Kin & Kind was born.

JOSIE:

I moved to the Eastern Beaches ten years ago, dragging my husband over from London.

I’ve taken a few different career routes since having 3 children, from working full time in a big corporate (international conference calls at 3am, no
thanks!) and freelance marketing insights and branding, to running the school P&C. I firmly believe in the power of friendships and community to
get through the challenging times and this has really framed the foundations for starting Kin & Kind.

I’m so excited to be sharing this journey with Miriam to try and create a place where as parents we can support each other and find creative and stimulating
outlets for our ‘me-time’.

MIRIAM:

My background is in journalism but my curiosity and enthusiasm for life in all its weird and wonderful glory, has taken me from karaoke hostess, travel
writer and blogger to radio producer, arts festival sponsorship manager, magazine editor and mum of two.

I’m looking forward to creating a community based on kindness and authenticity, where we continue to learn, create and have fun.
