Local Mum Andrea Hutchinson

Where and how long have you lived in the east?

When I arrived in Sydney from Northern Ireland as a backpacker in 2001, I lived in Bondi Junction and for the next 19 years moved around the east, living in Coogee, Little Bay, Kensington, Clovelly and now in Randwick.

Three words to describe living in the Eastern Suburbs

A) I would say Fun, as there is always something new happening

B) Close to the beaches – lots of variety, my closest beach is 1 hour away in Northern Ireland. I feel so spoilt here.

C) surrounded by nature, I am so close to the beautiful Centennial and Queens park

How many children ?

I have 2 children Bailey (a girl) who is 9 in Jan and Tate (a boy) who is 7.5 years old.

Favourite Park?

Newmarket, RANDWICK. So much fun for the kids, with lots of space, they always bump into school friends and there is lots of cafes for the adults to grab a coffee/wine or lunch/dinner.

Favourite beach?

By far Clovelly beach, such a family beach and my little boy feels safe there, as there are no waves. Plus I love Sea Salt cafe for coffee and lunch.

Favourite coffee spot

It is hard to beat Gustos on Frenchmans road for their coffee, bread and croissant’s. Another favourite is Tucker’s on Clovelly road, the owners Mike and Sam are so lovely and I have known them for a very long time .

Favourite date night place

I am loving the new Coogee Estate as you have 3 options to choose from. I was there on Sunday night, on a date…sitting outside with a glass of wine, and it was a beautiful warm evening.

Where in the East have you yet to explore

I pretty much think I have done all of the east. But you never know there could be some hidden gems that I still need to discover. Coogee Bay road always has lots of new restaurants opening.

Favourite local shop

This would have to be Harris Farm, Randwick as I love browsing through the aisles, there is always lots of new and interesting things to look at and buy.

Favourite wet weather location

This would have to be Coogee Pavilion, hands down. Lots for mum and the kids to do. Plus great food and wine choices. They also have lots of stuff, pre-organised during the holidays.

Favourite local family activity

This would have to be jumping on our bikes and heading over to Centennial park. I love to head to one of the parks and grab ice cream for the kids and an iced coffee for myself, they do laps whilst I sit in the sun and relax !

Work or Sahm

I am lucky In the sense that I run my own business Live Breathe Fitness in Randwick, which means I can pick up the kids from school. I also share them 50 percent with their dad. So the days I have them, I like to make this time special with them.

Three things you love about summer in the Eastern Suburbs

A) the hotter temperatures, I love hanging out in my courtyard whilst doing work, as I feel very relaxed and of course heading to the local beaches and
working on my tan.

B) Christmas – the parties, excitement, entertainment.

C) Time off over Christmas to relax, and spend time with family.

Motherly advice

You are number 1 . Schedule in times for yourself throughout the week. i.e catching up with friends, going to the gym, meditating,

Journaling, having some alone time., listening to podcasts. (My favourite, is the Mindset Mentor), it really sets me up for the day.
