This is a big win for local girls, mums and families in the Eastern Suburbs.

The brand-new Ladies Change Rooms at Easts Rugby Club in Rose Bay have officially opened at Andrew Petrie Oval — and they’re set to transform the way women and girls experience community sport.

Joined by NSW Opposition Leader Kellie Sloane MP, Marjorie O’Neill MP, Easts Rugby representatives and the NSW Office of Sport, the opening on 10 April marked more than just a new building — it marked real progress.

From Changing Behind Bushes… to World-Class Facilities

It’s hard to believe, but until now, many female players at Easts Rugby had to change in their cars or behind bushes.

For mums with daughters in sport, that’s not just inconvenient — it’s a major barrier.

Now, thanks to a $500,000 contribution from Woollahra Council, those days are over.

Instead, girls and women have access to safe, modern, purpose-built facilities that make them feel welcome, respected and part of the club.

Why This Matters for Families

If you’ve ever tried to encourage your daughter to join a local team, you’ll know how important the right environment is.

It’s not just about the game — it’s about:

  • Feeling comfortable
  • Feeling included
  • Feeling confident

These new change rooms tick all the boxes, making it easier for more girls to say “yes” to sport.

And for parents? It means peace of mind knowing your child is in a safe, supportive space.

Designed with Women in Mind

Created by Sam Crawford Architects, the new facility is all about inclusion and community.

It features:

  • Dedicated female change rooms
  • Accessible amenities for all abilities
  • First aid and referee rooms
  • Spacious team areas for connection and downtime
  • A covered viewing veranda so families can comfortably watch the game

The elevated design even turns a flood-prone site into a bonus — offering shaded, accessible viewing for spectators.

A Beautiful Space by the Beach

True to its Rose Bay setting, the building blends beautifully with the coastal surroundings. Think sandy brick, warm timber and natural ventilation — a space that feels calm, welcoming and built to last.

Supporting the Next Generation of Female Athletes

Easts Rugby Club is already a much-loved part of the community, and with women’s teams growing fast, this upgrade couldn’t have come at a better time.

These new facilities send a powerful message to young girls:

You belong here.

Whether your child is already playing sport or thinking about giving it a go, this is exactly the kind of investment that makes a difference.

Because when girls feel supported, they show up — and when they show up, amazing things happen.
