Accordion Brings Light, Music and Interactive Fun to Bondi Festival 2026

If you’re visiting Bondi Festival this winter, don’t miss one of the festival’s most spectacular free attractions. Accordion, an immersive light installation by internationally acclaimed artists Amigo & Amigo, is transforming the Bondi Pavilion Courtyard into a colourful playground of music, movement and creativity.

Running from 20 June to 28 July 2026, this free interactive artwork extends beyond the official Bondi Festival dates, giving families and visitors even more opportunities to experience its magic.

Celebrating Bondi’s Special 2026 Milestone

This year is particularly significant for Bondi. With Bondi’s postcode being 2026, Bondi Festival is celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime connection by expanding its program with larger and more ambitious experiences than ever before.

Accordion has been created as a centrepiece of these celebrations, inviting the community to come together through art, play and shared experiences.

Step Inside a Symphony of Light and Sound

Standing proudly in the Garu Courtyard at the northern end of Bondi Pavilion, Accordion features six giant interconnected illuminated archways, inspired by the folds of a traditional accordion.

Each archway is constructed from glowing steel rings wrapped in vibrant printed fabric, creating a striking visual display during both the day and especially after sunset.

But this isn’t an artwork you’re simply meant to admire—it’s one you’re encouraged to interact with.

At the base of every arch is an interactive pad. Jump, step or dance on the pad and watch the installation respond instantly. Waves of colourful light travel through the arches while musical notes fill the air, creating a playful experience where every visitor becomes part of the performance.

Children will love discovering how their movements create different sounds and colours, while adults will enjoy the immersive atmosphere and the perfect opportunity for memorable photos.

Perfect for Families

Accordion is one of those rare installations that appeals to every generation.

Whether you’re visiting Bondi Beach for the day, enjoying Bondi Festival or simply taking an evening stroll, it’s an easy addition to your outing. Best of all, it’s completely free, making it a fantastic family-friendly activity during the winter school holidays.

As darkness falls, the illuminated arches become even more spectacular, making the evening one of the best times to visit.

Meet the Artists Behind the Magic

Accordion has been created by Amigo & Amigo, an Australian studio renowned for producing large-scale interactive public art installations.
