If you’re looking for a free family day out this August, add this one to your calendar. The expanded Gunyama Park in Zetland is officially opening on Saturday 15 August, and families are invited to celebrate with an afternoon of play, entertainment and outdoor fun.
With a spectacular new adventure playground, water play, skateboarding workshops, live entertainment and plenty of space for picnics, it’s the perfect excuse to get the kids outdoors and discover one of Sydney’s newest family destinations.
A Playground Kids Won’t Want to Leave
The star attraction is undoubtedly the incredible new playground, designed to keep children climbing, sliding and exploring for hours.
Covering an impressive area, the playground includes:
- Over 70 metres of tunnels and giant tube slides
- A flying fox
- Swings for different ages
- Climbing ropes and adventure obstacles
- In-ground trampolines
- Musical play equipment
- Sand play
- Dedicated play spaces for toddlers and primary school-aged children
It’s the kind of playground where children can create their own adventures while burning off plenty of energy.
Cool Off in the Water Play Area
If the weather is warm, don’t forget a change of clothes.
The new water play area is perfect for splashing around and cooling off, making Gunyama Park an ideal destination for families throughout spring and summer.
Calling All Young Skaters!
Does your child love skateboarding or want to give it a try?
During the opening celebrations, Totem Collective will host FREE skateboarding workshops, with professional skateboards and helmets supplied.
Sessions include beginner lessons and a fun self-expression skate jam, making it suitable for both first-timers and young skaters wanting to build confidence.
More Than Just a Playground
The expanded park has been designed as a space for the whole community to enjoy.
Families can relax on the large open lawns, enjoy a barbecue with friends, have lunch at the picnic tables or simply wander through the beautiful landscaped gardens featuring more than 150 newly planted trees and native vegetation inspired by the area’s original wetlands.
The park also celebrates Aboriginal culture and connection to Country through its thoughtful landscape design and dedicated learning circle, creating opportunities for storytelling, education and community gatherings.
A Fun Afternoon for Everyone
The official opening will have a real festival atmosphere with plenty happening throughout the afternoon.
Families can enjoy:
- 🎵 Live DJ
- 🤹 Roving entertainers
- 🎨 Kids’ activities
