As part of National Volunteer Week (19–25 May 2025), Woollahra Council is proudly celebrating the outstanding contributions of the more than 150 volunteers who support our local community all year round.
These volunteers play a vital role across many areas—helping out in our libraries, contributing to exhibitions at the Woollahra Gallery at Redleaf, participating in environmental efforts through Bushcare and HarbourCare, and so much more.
In 2024, the council also welcomed 68 corporate and community groups who generously gave their time to organise beach and park clean-ups, making a big impact on the health and beauty of our environment.
Mayor of Woollahra, Councillor Sarah Swan, says National Volunteer Week is the perfect opportunity to thank everyone who selflessly shares their time, skills, and enthusiasm.
“Each year, we invite our volunteers to a special morning tea to acknowledge their efforts and let them know how deeply valued they are,” Mayor Swan said.
“Many of our volunteers have been working with us for years, while others are just getting started. What unites them is a genuine passion for our local area and a spirit of generosity that inspires everyone around them. Happy National Volunteer Week to all our volunteers—and to everyone in the community who gives back in their own way,” she said.
Meet Some of Our Wonderful Volunteers:
Kay – Library Volunteer
Kay has been part of our Home Library Service for many years, delivering books and other items to housebound residents.
“I always enjoy coming to volunteer. The Home Library members love receiving their deliveries and get so much joy from it,” Kay shared.
Alex – Code Club Facilitator
Alex is one of our brilliant Code Club volunteers, teaching children the basics of coding through fun and interactive sessions.
“I work full-time in a corporate role, so teaching kids something fun is really rewarding. They challenge me and my technical skills too!” said Alex.
Idy – Slide Monitor, Double Bay Library
Idy has been helping to keep everyone safe on the much-loved slide at Double Bay Library for six years.
“I moved to Australia from Hong Kong 10 years ago and felt it was important to give back. Volunteering has helped me feel connected to my new community,” she said.
We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness and commitment of every volunteer who makes Woollahra such a wonderful place to live.
