Sydney Celebrity Chef Mitch Orr Heads to Orange for an Unforgettable Truffle Feast

If you’ve ever wanted to experience a menu by one of Sydney’s most celebrated chefs in one of NSW’s most picturesque wine regions, this might be your perfect winter weekend away.

Acclaimed chef Mitch Orr will headline this year’s Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner at Borrodell Estate in Orange on Saturday 11 July, bringing his signature produce-driven cooking style to one of Australia’s longest-running truffle events.

Known for his work at ACME, Kiln at Ace Hotel Sydney and most recently as Culinary Director of 25hours Hotel The Olympia, Orr has earned a devoted following for his bold, inventive approach to food. This winter, he’ll swap city kitchens for the vineyards of Orange, creating a five-course truffle feast celebrating the region’s prized Black Périgord truffles.

Now in its 19th year, the Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner has become one of Orange’s signature winter events, attracting food lovers from across the country.

The experience begins with a guided truffle hunt through Borrodell Estate’s trufferie alongside expert truffle dog trainers and their talented dogs. Guests will learn how truffles are found, uncover freshly harvested truffles hidden beneath the soil, and gain a rare insight into one of Australia’s most sought-after ingredients.

Then it’s time to warm up.

Guests are welcomed back inside with Borrodell’s famous mulled heritage apple cider before settling in for Orr’s highly anticipated menu, paired with estate and museum wines from the award-winning vineyard.

Adding to the fun is the event’s famously quirky dress code. Guests are encouraged to pair formal black tie attire with decorated gumboots, with prizes awarded for the best-dressed boots of the evening. Think sequins, faux fur, glitter and plenty of country creativity. It’s where black tie meets paddock chic – Kate Moss at Glastonbury, if Glastonbury served truffles and cool-climate wine.

For Sydney food lovers, it’s also the perfect excuse for a winter escape. Just over three hours from Sydney, Orange comes alive during truffle season, with cosy cellar doors, exceptional restaurants, boutique accommodation and some of the country’s best cool-climate wines.

Whether you’re planning a couples’ getaway, a girls’ weekend or simply looking for an excuse to indulge in one of Australia’s great food experiences, this is an event that combines world-class dining with regional charm.

And with Mitch Orr at the helm, tickets are unlikely to last long.

The Black Tie and Gumboot Truffle Hunt and Dinner takes place on Saturday 11 July 2026 at Borrodell Estate, Orange. Tickets are on sale now.
