Finding a Gym That Feels Good: Why I Opened J.I.M in Botany

J.I.M: A Gym That Finally Feels Right When people think of someone opening a gym, they often imagine a lifelong fitness enthusiast or a personal trainer. That’s not my story. I’m a mum of three, and I’ve never considered myself a “gym junkie.” I’ve always wanted movement to be a natural, manageable part of my day — something I could actually look forward to, not dread. Like many of us, I’ve tried it all — the fitness fads, the gym memberships that barely lasted a month. Nothing ever felt quite right… until I discovered J.I.M. So, what makes it different?…

Monday’s Local Mum, Hannah Hobbs

Hi, I’m Hannah Hobbs. I’m married to Jarad, and we have three wild and wonderful kids — our son Jax (8), our daughter Jericho (6), and our little tornado boy Joa (18 months). This week, Jarad and I are celebrating 16 years of marriage — which feels like a lifetime and five minutes all at once. I actually grew up in the Sutherland Shire but have called the eastern suburbs home for the last decade. We moved to Botany in August 2019, just a few months before the world turned upside down — and we’ve absolutely loved being part of…

Eastern Suburbs Mums Halloween 2024 Guide

We’ve done a round up of the spookily great streets to celebrate Halloween 2024 style in the Eastern Suburbs. Even though Halloween officially falls on a Thursday 31 st October there are loads of local events if you can’t do anything to celebrate it on a school night! We also encourage that children are supervised when out in the street, respect neighbourhoods in terms of noise and have fun but be good locals! Our other tip is be a good neighbour and purchase some bags of lollies if you are walking out with the kids, this is to help replenish…

Monday’s Local Mum, Jordan Totten

Hey! I’m Jordan, mum to three precious girls. Bodhi is 6, Brixie is 3 and Blaize is 20 months. My husband is Brandon and we moved to Botany a couple years ago, prior to this we lived in Matraville. I work as a primary teacher and have my own little business called Blossom’s Play. Blossom’s Play is a sensory play business where I provide pop-up events for parents and carers to bring their little ones to, to get messy and not have to worry about the clean-up. I also provide sensory parties, incursions and events. I’d love to eventually provide…

Monday’s Local Mum, Michelle Bouabaid.

Hello there! 👋 I’m Michelle, a local business owner and mum of three. Growing up in the Inner West now living in the East, I’ve always had a deep rooted connection to community and creativity. My husband is a builder and I was an industrial designer who later gained a teaching degree. When our second child was 3 we moved to the East and haven’t looked back. Our children are now 21, 19 and 13. With our youngest now more independent, I’ve been able to indulge in some of my favourite hobbies like dancing, going to the beach and working…

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: There’s no better martial art for children to train.

Step into our academy and experience the camaraderie and support of our community as you learn the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It’s a unique martial art which allows practitioners to dominate larger and stronger opponents. As it prioritises timing and technique over size and power, there’s no better martial art for children to train. Jiu-Jitsu teaches children valuable self-defence skills, and is great for both health and confidence. BJJ is an effective anti-bullying system. Not only are little champions able to defend themselves, they learn to do so in the safest way possible. They’ll create new social circles outside of…
