In2theWild

Feeling like you need to get away for the weekend? Don’t want to drive for hours and hours? You could take the kids, take your partner for some romance or just get away for some much needed alone time? Well we’ve discovered a small (and we mean tiny) escape that you won’t forget.

Local ES Mum Natasha Weir manages In2thewild – an off the grid eco tiny house accommodation option with all the necessities (yes ladies and non campers – hot showers and toilets!). The tiny houses are all located within a 1-3 hour drive of Sydney in secluded and peaceful locations.

If you’re looking for a tech detox or a chance to reconnect with the family, partner or yourself (finish a book or 3) this is for you. The sun and gas bottles power the houses and there’s no need to charge your laptop or appliances (only if you want to and only if the sun is shining!). Phone reception is touch and go – but that’s okay hectic Mums! We all need to switch off from the daily grind and connect to nature at some point to reboot the mind and body.

We took the kiddies to Edmond house, located in the Southern Highlands for two nights and loved every minute (yes even with 3 kids under 5!). The best bit – your exact location remains secret two days before your stay so you have no idea where you’ll be travelling to and what you can explore. But it doesn’t take long to get your bearings, select the pubs, restaurants and local must see activities.

The stillness and quiet was utter heaven when compared to the rat race of Sydney. We had breakfast overlooking the hills, spotted a wombat roaming the paddock, the kids picked daisies and counted cows. It was a much-needed reset for our busy lives and would definitely rebook for maybe something more romantic with hubby.

VERDICT: A SMALL weekend escape, but a BIG breath of fresh air

Notes:The houses sleep 2-4 with a Queen and a double pullout (or 2 singles)
