The weight of life can lower one’s mood and general outlook on everything around us. This can create a negative spiral of depression, lethargy and moodiness.
According to Elizabeth Jane, it is important to remember that while difficult things happen to us from time to time, these things don’t reflect who we are. These things are transient and we move past them. The important thing is to learn from these challenges and ensure that we are making an effort to keep ourselves uplifted and positive. This can be challenging when you are feeling flat, but there are some quick and easy ways to power up your mind and body to feel better.
Elizabeth Jane is a respected wellbeing and mindfulness keynote speaker, relationships’ coach and mentor, celebrated artist and author of Amazon best-seller ‘Free and First – Unlocking Your Ultimate Life’.
Jane experienced a sudden and traumatic divorce after 25 years of marriage and during her difficult and life changing journey of rebuilding her life and finding her new path, she journalled the process translating her insights and learnings into a highly sought-after self-help book.
Jane now speaks all over the world and shares her insights and tools on how to survive and overcome difficult and challenging life experiences as well as how to find joy, and in the process, rediscover yourself.
“If you’re looking to power up mentally, physically, and energetically, there are some simple actionable things you can do to boost your overall vitality,” Jane said.
Put yourself first
“As you prioritise self-care, you lift up into a higher vibe which benefits yourself and those around you. You can’t expect others to love and respect you if you don’t love and respect yourself. Find at least half an hour each day to follow your fun and take care of yourself to uplift your mood,” Jane said.
Morning routine activation
“Start your day on a positive note with a consistent morning routine as this sets your mood for the rest of the day. Hydrate with water with lemon, practise gratitude and engage in a light workout or stretch, to wake up your body and mind,” Jane said.
Get quality sleep
“In order to power up, your body needs rest. A full seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep gives you the energy you need to take on the day. Create a night time routine that promotes relaxation, ideally shutting down devices at least an hour before bedtime,” Jane said.
Nourish your body with high-energy antioxidant rich foods
“Food fuels our body so it is important that we are feeding it quality fuel. Focus on nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains. Avoid processed foods and sugars, which can cause energy crashes,” Jane said.
“Increase the servings of fresh vegetables and aim to eat lean meat where possible. Avoid alcohol and smoking as this invites toxins into your body.”
Cold showers
“Having a cold shower is an age-old technique that stimulates blood flow, boosts your mood and wakes the senses giving you an instant energy boost,” Jane said.
“You will feel invigorated and alert after a cold shower.”
Move more
“We know that exercise helps to bump up the production of the brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. The more you move, the better you feel. Incorporate strength training, cardio or yoga into your day. Regular exercise increases energy levels, improves mood and reduces stress,” Jane said.
Mental focus practices and positive affirmations to keep you fully present
“Start your day with positive affirmations or intentions. They help shape your mindset and raise your vibration for the day ahead,” Jane said.
“Power up mentally by practising mindfulness, deep breathing or using focus techniques. This improves concentration and mental clarity throughout the day which is important when trying to keep yourself on a higher level mentally.”
Break projects down into smaller parcels
“To prevent becoming overwhelmed by the enormity of a project, consider implementing the Pomodoro method. This involves breaking down your projects into manageable, achievable tasks of 25 minutes each. If possible, delegate tasks to help streamline your workload,” Jane said.
Drink plenty of water
“Dehydration can lead to fatigue and sluggishness. Drink enough water throughout the day to maintain your physical and mental energy levels and flush out toxins,” Jane said.
Take breaks
“Recharge by taking small breaks during work or study. This helps you maintain productivity over longer periods and prevents burnout,” Jane said.
“It is important to stop, recharge by focusing on being fully present and not lost in our negative thoughts of the past or future which drain our energy reserves.”
Energy clearing
“Clear your mental or physical energy by smudging (sage or palo santo) or practising energy- clearing visualisations, which help release negative vibes and create fresh mental space,” Jane said.
Spend time in nature
“Immersing ourselves in nature energises us and helps to clear out heavy negative energies lifting our spirit. If you are office bound, it can be as simple as taking your shoes off and taking your lunch to the nearest park,” Jane said.
Let go of toxic relationships and situations
“Spring clean and free yourself from people and situations that are holding you back from stepping into your full potential. Forgive those who have caused you pain as holding grudges causes you mental and possibly physical harm,” Jane said.
“Reaffirm your boundaries and let go of what is not serving you in your life. Start saying no to what doesn’t intuitively feel right for you is empowering and helps you to power up your life in a more defined and actionable way.”
Stay inspired
“Consume content that motivates and uplifts you. Whether it’s a podcast, book or YouTube video, filling your mind with positive and inspiring ideas keeps your energy high,” Jane said.
“Surround yourself with positive people. Your vibe is influenced by the people around you. Spend more time with those who uplift you, encourage growth and align with your values.”
Be you and do you well
“By integrating some or all of these habits, you’ll be able to supercharge your energy reserves and maintain a more vibrant, powerful state throughout the day,” Jane said.
Jane emphasised, when we are in a position to be fully authentic and to express and meet our own needs, we free ourselves to become the leader of our life and master of our mind and a more joyful life unfolds.
