Each week we meet a local eastern suburb mum to hear about her life in Sydney’s east and tips for motherhood.
This week meet Sandra Chau from Little Bay.
Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s East:
My parents lived in Vaucluse when I was growing up so I have lived in the East for the longest time.
I did a 10-year stint in Hong Kong after university and only moved back to Sydney a year and a half ago but have been living in Little Bay since and we love it here.
How many children:
One little monkey named Annabelle who is 2.5 years old and she’s changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. Being a mum is definitely my best role yet!
Favourite Park:
I love the local playground in Little Bay. It has plenty of fun things to keep Annabelle occupied but it also has the best view so I find it really calming and relaxing to look out to. It reminds me of my walks down to The Gap at Watsons Bay growing up.
I also love to head over to the playground at Queens Park because there’s just so much to do there and having a café right next door is always a plus.
Favourite Beach:
I love Little Bay Beach. It’s only a small beach but as it’s just a short walk away and the water is really calm making it perfect for splashing around in during the summer.
Favourite kid friendly café:
I have a few favourites including Duck Duck Goose Café in Randwick, which has a small play area and instead of marshmallows they give the kiddies gingerbread ducks! Bourke St Bakery in Banksmeadow is also regular stop for us too as they have a play area that keeps Annabelle occupied while I enjoy a yummy sausage roll or pastry and coffee.
Favourite Coffee Spot:
I’m a major coffee lover so it’s hard to pick a favourite – there are so many! But I do frequent Bake Bar in Randwick a lot.
Favourite date night place:
That’s a toughie since date nights are hard to come by. When we do get a chance, my husband and I are always up for some modern Japanese cuisine and recently love heading to Cho Cho San in Potts Point or Sake Restaurant in Double Bay.
Favourite Mother’s Group Location:
Annabelle was born in Hong Kong so we spent her first year there and never got to join one of those awesome mother’s group I’ve heard so much about!
Favourite wet weather location:
If cabin fever hits on a rainy day at home, we head to Westfield Eastgardens. There are a couple of play areas and everything you need is available there, including those much needed caffeine hits.
Work or SAHM:
Neither but I work from home, running two businesses (aka my other babies). I am an event designer and my company Simply Peachy is a bespoke event design and planning business that specializes in creating unique and memorable celebrations with a whole lot of personality. My motto is “We Create. You Celebrate.” and there is no celebration too big or small. I love working on all kinds of events be it birthday parties, weddings, baby showers, bridal showers, anniversary parties and more.
I am also one half of A Pop Of Love Photography, with fellow Eastern Suburb mum Amelia being the other half. We met one another in the wonderful world of weddings and after entering the exciting world of motherhood around the same time, we realised there was something missing in the area of kids photography and came together to create something fun, stylish and awesome for busy parents who wanted to get professional photos of their kids without breaking the bank, that were also migraine-free. A Pop Of Love Photography is a modern pop-up photography studio specialising capturing cool and beautiful portraits of kids at every age. As mothers, we appreciate how quickly kids grow and change and believe in providing fun and affordable ways for parents to document their developing personalities every step of the way. We love capturing kids just as they are – whether they have loud or quiet personalities. We don’t do cheesy or heavily styled and decorated shoots – we are about snapping up those fleeting memories of children in the most authentic of ways so both parents and the kids can look back on them in years to come and remember what they were like. That might mean some tears, lots of smiles or even no smiles and that is all fine by us. We get it – all kids are different and we love that.
