Each week we meet a local mum to hear about her life in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, this week we meet Miriam Pollak from Vaucluse who shares her love of food as a nutritionist.
Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east:
I’ve lived East all my life. I grew up around Bellevue Hill and Bondi, before moving to Vaucluse with my husband 10 or so years ago.
How many children:
I have 2 children- my daughter is 7 and my son will be 6 soon. This year is the first year they are both in school. I think I have found the transition more difficult than them! I am embarrassed to admit, I cried every morning after drop off for the first 3 weeks of school.
Lyne Park. Actually its more the kids’ favourite park because they love the flying fox that intermittently works. They can spend hours riding up and down on it.
Nielsen Park. In summer our family weekend
routine is to get up, make some coffees/babycinos at home and then head straight down for a swim.
Favourite kid friendly cafe:
The Bondi Tratt all the way. The food is always fabulous and its honestly where my kids always ask to go when we do head out for a family breakfast.
Oooh, can I have 2? For lunch outings we are also big fans of the Watson’s Bay Hotel in summer. Can you really beat lunch outside, by the water?
Favourite Coffee Spot:
I seldom have a chance to go out and grab a coffee, though when I do, it’s at Rocco’s on New South Head Road Vaucluse. Their coffee is consistently good, and I can walk there while I am running errands.
Favourite date night place:
We try to mix it up a bit. But high on the list of places I’d really like to go to is Regatta down in Rose Bay. We still haven’t been there since it changed hands.
Favourite Mother’s Group Location:
Mother’s group per se was some time ago. But my school mums are my new mother’s group – where would I be without those fantastic ladies? We end up spending a lot of time hanging out at Woollahra Rugby Club and Nagle Park because our kids all play rugby together.
Favourite wet weather location:
At home, in my pyjamas. These days, getting in some downtime at home having fmaily snuggle time can be tough. So on a rainy day we love to get up late, eat breakfast together and then potter about the house, baking or playing together.
Favourite Local Shop:
Coles. I’m always forgetting something in my shopping, so it’s handy to have it a quick walk down the road.
Work or SAHM:
Both. I’ve been fortunate enough to have spent the last few years with the perfect balance of working from home so that I can be around for homework and cuddles and snotty noses. Nowadays you’ll find me in my rooms down in Bondi Beach a as well where I work as a Nutritionist, specialising in women’s health (www.nourish-meant.com.au)
Be true to yourself. There is too much advice, freely given, albeit with the best of intentions. And it’s confusing! Trust in your own instincts because you are a fantastic mum and your gut has probably already given you the answer you need.
