Brooke McMurray

Each Monday we meet a local eastern suburbs mum, this week meet mum of two, Brooke McMurray from Maroubra

Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s East?

I am originally from Melbourne, I moved to Sydney in 2007 and then moved to Maroubra in 2012 and I haven’t looked back!

How many children?

Boy Jett Steele aged 3

Girl Laycie London aged 2

Favourite Park?

My kids absolutely love Grant Reserve Park, which is the Park on Beach Street near Coogee Surf Club. It is in such a great location, we can go for a swim at Wylies and head up to the park, (they love climbing the pyramid). If they are lucky we might get McDonalds for a special treat.

Favourite Beach?

Definitely would have to say Maroubra beach, especially living so close in Maroubra, the beach has become our second home. Being able to walk down the beach of an arvo is something I definitely don’t take for granted, it is such a beautiful place.

Favourite Kid Friendly cafe?

Locally, and so close to my place in Maroubra I would say The North End cafe, they have a kids play area, serve great baby cinos and have such great friendly staff (they also don’t mind a toddler tantrum). I would also have to say I am really impressed with The Coogee Pavillion. They have a great kid set up, their pizzas are amazing and during the holidays they often have activities on for the kids. It’s a great place for mums to get together with the kids, you can have a coffee and the kids can run a muck.

Favourite Coffee Spot?

Love a cappuccino from Gusto’s at Coogee or the North End Cafe at Maroubra

Favourite Date Night Place?

We love getting away for a few hours and heading up to The Spot at Randwick. A nice cocktail and some tapas from Spanish Fly and maybe a movie at The Ritz.
It’s hard to get time away from the kids but when we do its good to just hang out have a nice meal a few drinks and maybe catch a movie.

Favourite Mothers Group Location?

When the kids were younger we used to head to centennial park to catch up for coffee and a baby play. There is a great park there, you can get a good take away coffee and the kids love the ducks at the duck pond.

Best wet weather location?

My kids love Des Renford Swimming Pool, especially with the blow up obstacle course they have in the inside pool. It has been great for us over the last few weeks in this heat on rainy days.

Work or SAHM?

Cheekyscoots is my other baby. I wanted to find a way to work from home so I can be around the kids as much as possible. I launched Cheekyscoots in 2014 and it has been a whirlwind experience. We create the most awesome and cool scooter accessories for kids.

Currently have 4 dinosaurs (Derek, Dexter, Dax and Daisy) and 1 monkey (Morris) and we are so excited to announce that we have more exciting animals coming out this year. It really has been a labor of love and I am so thankful to all my local stockists and supporters. I am a big believer in supporting local businesses and there are so many amazing mums giving it ago just like myself.

If your ever in Kiddoodle on Clovelly Road you will find Cheekyscoots in there otherwise online at

Motherly Advice:

Listen to your gut, you know your kids best. I have found that there is often so much advice and so many opinions that it can become overwhelming, especially as a new mum. Your the one who is with you kids every day and every night, you know them best!!!! Also a good coffee or wine date with a great friend can always help.
