Local Review - Duck Duck Goose

Personally i like what Randwick has to offer and think it still has so much potential,  but i find it difficult with regards to parking and not that easy to get around, especially with young children.

As a destination i still think it has a long way to go and it would be good to see Randwick Council making it more attractive for families and creating a real local hub like a Newtown or Balmain for eating out.

That aside, there is a great kid friendly cafe – Duck Duck Goose in Avoca Street that we discovered after driving past many times that i thought we must check out.

We parked in the underground carpark at Royal Randwick Shopping Centre and walked about 50metres up Avoca Street, we are welcomed by friendly wait staff and the kids bolt for the rear part of the cafe where there is a great area and space created with kids books, toys and a large table.  The waitress is quick to attend to us and service is great, i have a much needed coffee and the kids have some lovely fresh banana bread and baby chino’s.

There is a great selection of healthy and varied foods on the kids menu, all priced from a very reasonable $5-$8 including eggs on toast, duck pancake, kids cheese plate, lasagne and a special watermelon pizza.  They also offer 3-coures kid’s meal for $12 which includes a smoothie, kids main meal and scoop of ice-cream, so would be great to try for breakfast, lunch. (they don’t open for dinner)

The only challenge I see is how pram friendly it is for mums with younger babies or toddlers as there is not much space to park the pram, so maybe use the baby carrier as much easier access and there are high chairs available.

But overall our experience was pleasant and we really liked the food and atmosphere, and most of all the kids liked it, we will be back for sure.
