Tucked away in a quiet corner of Paddington is a playground that deserves a spot on every Eastern Suburbs family’s must-visit list. With an exciting tube slide, climbing adventures, plenty of space to explore and a fully fenced play area, Gugara Park is one of those lovely local discoveries you’ll wish you’d known about sooner!

Sometimes the best family outings aren’t the big, expensive attractions. They’re the little neighbourhood treasures where kids can run, climb, explore and burn off energy while parents enjoy a coffee or catch up with friends.

And that’s exactly what makes Gugara Park in Paddington such a delightful hidden gem.

Located on the corner of Dillon Street and Neild Avenue, this beautifully upgraded neighbourhood park combines adventurous play equipment, natural surroundings and practical facilities for families.

A Playground Made for Little Adventurers

Forget the ordinary playground slide! Gugara Park takes playtime to another level with an exciting tubular slide built into the park’s sloping landscape.

Children who love a challenge can scramble up the large climbing net, test their balance on timber beams and hop between stepping posts.

There’s plenty to keep little explorers entertained, including:

  • An exciting tubular slide: Perfect for kids who love the thrill of sliding.
  • A large climbing net: Great for adventurous children who enjoy climbing and testing their skills.
  • Balance beams and timber stepping posts: Encouraging coordination, confidence and imaginative play.
  • A large swing set: Because no playground adventure is complete without a swing!
  • Nature-inspired play: A chance for children to explore, move and enjoy being outdoors.

The playground makes clever use of its sloping setting, creating a more adventurous play environment than you might expect from a small neighbourhood park.

Fully Fenced — A Big Plus for Parents!

One feature parents will particularly appreciate is that the playground is fully fenced.

For families juggling energetic toddlers, curious preschoolers or children of different ages, having an enclosed play space can make an outing much more relaxing.

The park also features seating, picnic tables and pathways, making it a lovely place to spend a little extra time rather than rushing off after a quick play.

Pack some snacks, bring a picnic lunch or grab a takeaway coffee and settle in while the kids enjoy their adventures.

A Little Green Oasis in Paddington

Gugara Park hasn’t always looked this inviting.

Previously known as Dillon Street Reserve, the park was transformed following a community-led redesign supported by Woollahra Council.

The improvements included an additional 1,300 square metres of land, upgraded playground equipment, new pathways, picnic facilities and extensive landscaping.

New garden beds filled with shrubs and flowering plants have helped turn the space into an attractive neighbourhood retreat.

It’s a lovely example of how a local community space can become somewhere families genuinely enjoy spending time.

Why Is It Called Gugara Park?

Here’s a lovely little fact to share with the kids during your visit.

Gugara is the Dharawal word for kookaburra!

The park was renamed following consultation with the community and the Gujaga Foundation.

It’s a particularly fitting name for a playground, with Woollahra Council drawing a connection between the laughter of kookaburras and the happy sounds of children playing.

Perhaps you could challenge the kids to make their best kookaburra laugh while they’re there!

Why We Think Families Will Love It

Gugara Park ticks plenty of boxes for a simple, affordable family outing.

It’s free, fully fenced and packed with opportunities for active outdoor play. The mix of climbing, balancing, swinging and sliding makes it particularly appealing for children who enjoy a little adventure.

And because it’s tucked into a residential corner of Paddington, it offers a different experience from some of Sydney’s larger, busier destination playgrounds.

It’s also a great reminder that you don’t always need to travel far to discover something new with the kids.
