Looking for a fun, FREE family day out that keeps the kids entertained while teaching them a little about caring for our planet? Randwick City Council’s much-loved Eco Living Festival is returning to Maroubra Beach on Sunday 1 November 2026, bringing a wonderful mix of children’s activities, creative workshops, live entertainment and clever money-saving ideas for families.

Taking place at Broadarrow Reserve from 10am to 3pm, this popular community celebration is now in its 21st year and promises a day filled with inspiration, discovery and plenty of hands-on fun.

And the best part? Entry is completely FREE!

A Day of Family Fun That Doesn’t Cost the Earth

With household budgets feeling the squeeze, finding affordable family entertainment is always welcome.

This year’s festival has a particularly timely theme: Save Money, Cut Waste, Live Better.

The idea is simple. Making environmentally friendly choices doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. In fact, many sustainable habits can help families save money.

From swapping toys instead of buying new ones to repairing everyday household items, the festival offers practical inspiration that parents can take home and put into action.

Plenty to Keep Little Hands Busy

One of the highlights of the Eco Living Festival is its focus on activities that encourage children to explore, create and learn.

Here’s what families can look forward to.

Toy Swap – Give Pre-Loved Toys a New Adventure

We all know how quickly children outgrow their toys.

Rather than letting perfectly good toys gather dust, the festival’s toy swap offers a wonderful opportunity to embrace reuse.

It’s also a great way to introduce children to the idea that something doesn’t need to be brand new to bring happiness.

Check the festival information for any toy swap participation requirements before attending.

Creative Kids’ Craft Activities

Little makers will love the opportunity to get creative with hands-on craft activities.

It’s a chance for children to explore their imaginations while discovering how materials can be reused and given a second life.

Sewing, Upcycling and Repair Workshops

Have you ever wondered whether that old favourite item could be repaired rather than replaced?

The festival will feature a sewing lab, upcycling activities and reuse and repair workshops.

These activities offer families a chance to discover useful skills and encourage children to think differently about throwing things away.

Discover First Nations Culture Together

Another wonderful part of the festival is the Caring for Country Space, where families can learn about First Nations culture, traditional knowledge and connections to the natural environment.

Throughout the day, visitors can explore drop-in weaving, shellwork and jewellery activities, alongside native plant education from IndigiGrow.

There will also be scheduled cultural workshops, including:

  • 10am: Johnny Cake workshop
  • 11am: Native Plants and Bush Soap workshop
  • 12:45pm: Bark Rope Making
  • 1:45pm: Gamay Dancers workshop

These experiences provide a meaningful opportunity for children and adults to learn together.

Little Gardeners Can Get Inspired Too!

If your little ones enjoy digging in the garden, watching plants grow or discovering creepy crawlies, make time to explore the festival’s gardening activities.

With gardening workshops, plants and expert advice, families can discover simple ways to bring more greenery into their homes.

Even a small balcony or a few pots can become a wonderful introduction to growing plants and caring for nature.

Smart Ideas to Help Families Save Money

While the children enjoy the activities, parents can discover practical ideas for reducing household expenses.

The festival will feature energy-saving advice, electric vehicle displays, repair workshops and demonstrations showing how small changes can make a difference.

There’s even a Repair Café where visitors can bring small household items for expert repair advice.

And for those who enjoy cooking, a sustainable seafood demonstration will explore how to make better use of ingredients and reduce waste.

Food, Entertainment and a Lovely Day Outdoors

Of course, no family festival would be complete without something delicious to eat!

Local food vendors will be serving up tasty options throughout the day, while live entertainment adds to the relaxed community atmosphere.

With Maroubra Beach nearby, it’s also a lovely opportunity to enjoy one of the Eastern Suburbs’ favourite coastal destinations.
