Looking for a free school holiday activity in the Eastern Suburbs? This one should be a lot of fun for kids who are fascinated by police cars, horses, police dogs and emergency services.
Spark in the Park: Cops, Community & Kindness is coming to Broadarrow Reserve in Maroubra on Monday 28 September, bringing NSW Police and the local community together for three hours of family-friendly activities.
And it’s completely free.
Held as part of the Year of Kindness, the event is all about helping children meet some of the people who work in their community while enjoying plenty of entertainment and hands-on fun.
Meet the Mounted Police 🐴
One of the highlights for kids will undoubtedly be the chance to meet members of the NSW Mounted Police and their horses.
There will even be special community helper stories read on horseback by Mounted Police officers — definitely not your everyday story time!
It’s a great opportunity for children to see the horses up close and learn a little more about the role Mounted Police play.
Check Out a Highway Patrol Car 🚓
For kids who can’t walk past a police car without stopping to look, this could be the highlight of the morning.
An official NSW Highway Patrol vehicle will be on display, giving families the chance to get a closer look.
Children will also have the opportunity to sit inside the police vehicle and have their photo taken.
Watch the Police Dogs in Action 🐕🦺
The four-legged members of NSW Police will also be joining the fun.
Families can watch the police dogs in action and see some of the skills and training that go into their work alongside police officers.
Music from the NSW Police Band 🎺
There’ll be live entertainment throughout the event too, with the NSW Police Band bringing music to Broadarrow Reserve.
And keep an eye out for a particularly recognisable member of the police team — Constable Charlie, the friendly police mascot penguin, will be there to meet the kids.
Sergeant Says & Red Light, Green Light 🚦
This isn’t an event where kids have to stand back and watch.
They’ll be encouraged to join in with plenty of activities, including Sergeant Says — a police-themed take on the classic Simon Says — as well as a big game of Red Light, Green Light.
It’s a simple combination of outdoor play, music, stories and activities that should make for an easy school holiday morning in the park.
A Free Family Day in Maroubra
At the heart of Spark in the Park is a message about kindness and community.
Children can meet local police officers in a relaxed environment, discover some of the different roles within NSW Police and learn more about the people — and animals — who help keep the community safe.
