The new Meeks Street Plaza in Kingsford will come alive on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June 2023 as part of official opening celebrations, Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker announced.

On Saturday evening, people are encouraged to bring takeaway food from the local restaurants and listen to DJs and live music 4pm to 8pm. There’ll be kids’ entertainment, free doughnuts and bubble tea with official proceedings at 5pm.

On Sunday there will be more live music from 9am to midday as well as a farmer’s market selling fresh fruit and produce.

“This stretch of Randwick City along Anzac Parade was hard hit during the construction of the light rail, says Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker.

“Council has been able to create this new space for people by turning a road into a public plaza creating a space for people to gather, celebrate, and build connections.”

Visitors to Meeks Street Plaza will notice the new paving, lighting, trees and shrubs as well as a large grass lawn area for soaking up the sun and a timber performance stage to host entertainment.

“Collaborating with local businesses, artists, organisations and performers will be made easier thanks to having a space like this to utilise. Council is committed to enhancing this space for residents, promoting community interaction, and creating a sense of community,” said Mayor Parker.
