Local families are being urged to stay vigilant following a recent rock slip at North Bronte, which has prompted renewed attention to coastal safety in the area.
The incident occurred along the coastal cliff near the northern end of Bronte Beach, an area popular with walkers, families, and photographers. While thankfully no one was injured, the slip highlights the importance of staying behind designated safety barriers and heeding warning signs—especially during or after heavy rain, when rock faces can become unstable.
What’s Being Done
Waverley Council and geotechnical teams have inspected the area and are monitoring for any further movement. Temporary barriers and signage have been installed, and some nearby tracks or areas may be closed while assessments are ongoing.
Locals and visitors are reminded not to bypass fences or closed pathways, even if they appear safe.
A Message for Families
Bronte Beach and its surrounds are much-loved by families for their beauty and accessibility, but the natural landscape does come with hazards. If you’re planning a visit:
-
Keep children close and behind railings when near cliffs or rock faces.
-
Avoid walking close to cliff bases or climbing over rocks.
-
Watch for and respect any signage or detours.
