In honour of International Women’s Day, Randwick City Council is excited to host the Women’s Art Prize, a dynamic art competition and exhibition that showcases the incredible creative talents of female artists. This prestigious event celebrates the economic, political, and social contributions of women past, present, and future, while offering a platform for women to share their unique artistic voices.

    • Lionel Bowen Library Gallery: Tuesday, 18 March to Sunday, 13 April 2025
  • Location:
    • Randwick Town Hall: 90 Avoca Street, Randwick
    • Lionel Bowen Library: 669 Anzac Parade, Maroubra
  • How to Enter:
    Online entries open on Monday, 20 January 2025, and close on Friday, 14 February 2025. To submit your artwork, complete the online entry form through Smarty Grants. Once your entry is submitted, you’ll receive confirmation emails with exhibition dates and further details.

Who Can Enter?
The Women’s Art Prize is open to female artists, including cisgender and transgender women, and non-binary individuals who identify with the prize’s purpose. Artists must be aged 12 years or older and must live, work, study, or have some connection to the City of Randwick.

Artwork Guidelines:

  • The competition is for original visual artwork, created within the past year. You can submit drawings, paintings, photography, collage, sculpture, installation, or digital works.
  • Only one entry per artist is allowed.
  • AI-generated artwork is permitted, but it must be at least 70% artist-driven, with AI used as a tool, not the primary creator.
  • Artworks must not exceed 1 metre in height or width, including the frame, and must weigh no more than 10 kilograms.
  • Digital works will be displayed on a screen during the exhibition. They cannot exceed 60 seconds in length.

Important Dates for Artwork Submission:

  • Drop-off for Artworks: You’ll be assigned a time slot to drop off your work at Randwick Town Hall on Friday, 28 February or Saturday, 1 March (between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM).

The Women’s Art Prize is a wonderful opportunity to showcase your talent and potentially win amazing prizes across multiple categories, including:

    • 2nd Prize: $500
  • Local (18+ years, living/studying/working in Randwick LGA)
    • 1st Prize: $1500

    • 2nd Prize: $500
  • Councillor’s Choice
    • 1st Prize: $1000
    • 2nd Prize: $150
  • People’s Choice
    • 1st Prize: $500

Award Ceremony
Join us at Randwick Town Hall on Saturday, 8 March 2025 from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM for the Award Ceremony. Shortlisted artists will be contacted, and all entrants are encouraged to attend.

  • Saturday, 8 March 2025: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Sunday, 9 March 2025: 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Monday, 10 March 2025: 9:00 AM – 1:45 PM

  • Tuesday, 18 March to Sunday, 13 April 2025: During library opening hours

Prizes and Publicity:
Artists’ works will be displayed for public viewing and promotion. Winners will have their work photographed for marketing purposes, and you’ll have the chance to gain exposure for your creative talents.

How to Collect Your Artwork:
If your artwork is selected for the Lionel Bowen Library exhibition, it can be collected from the library on Monday, 14 April 2025 between 9:30 AM and 8:00 PM. All artworks must be collected by the designated date. Uncollected works will be disposed of.
