An outdoor plaza on Waratah Avenue in Randwick opened this week, providing community members with a new leisure and recreation space.

The plaza, situated off Belmore Road in the heart of Randwick, features terraced seating, tables, new trees and garden beds, and accessible pathways for prams and wheelchairs.

Randwick City Mayor Philipa Veitch said: “The new plaza is part of Council’s ongoing commitment to providing more open and outdoor spaces for community members to enjoy.

“It is an important addition to the main shopping and dining hub in Randwick, where many people work and pass through every day.

“The new plaza will provide residents and visitors with a place to slow down and rest, eat lunch, catch up with friends or connect with other community members,” Mayor Veitch said.

The construction of the plaza was jointly funded by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, and Randwick Council.

Mayor Veitch will officially open Waratah Avenue Plaza at a ceremony to be held on Thursday 4 April, between 5-7pm.
