Keeping the Eastern Suburbs cleaner just got easier with new Return and Earn bin baskets now appearing in some of the area’s busiest public spaces.

Funded by the NSW Government, the new recycling baskets sit alongside public garbage bins and give locals a simple way to recycle eligible drink containers while out and about. Instead of throwing bottles and cans into general waste, residents can now place them directly into the baskets so they can be collected and redeemed through the Return and Earn scheme.

The initiative aims to reduce litter across local streets, parks, shopping villages and harbour foreshore areas while encouraging more people to recycle everyday drink containers.

Families can also use the program as a great opportunity to teach children about sustainability, recycling and caring for the environment.

What Can Be Recycled?

The baskets accept eligible Return and Earn containers, including:

  • Plastic drink bottles
  • Glass drink bottles
  • Aluminium cans

Look for the “10 cent refundable” label on the container before recycling it.

Anyone Can Collect the Containers

Anyone can collect containers from the baskets and redeem them for a 10 cent refund at a Return and Earn station.

The baskets also make the process safer and cleaner by allowing collectors to access containers easily without searching through rubbish bins.

Where You’ll Find the New Bin Baskets

The new baskets have been installed at several popular Eastern Suburbs locations, including:

  • Oxford Street and Five Ways
  • Murray Rose Pool
  • Double Bay commercial centre
  • Queen Street village
  • Rose Bay village
  • Rose Bay Ferry Wharf
  • Watsons Bay Ferry Wharf
  • Robertson Park

Nearby Return and Earn Locations

Residents can redeem containers at local Return and Earn stations located at:

  • Edgecliff Centre
  • Double Bay Bowling Club
  • Diamond Bay Bowling Club
  • Bondi Junction

The new baskets are another positive step towards cleaner public spaces, less landfill waste and a more sustainable future for the Eastern Suburbs community.
