Mayor Susan Wynne was overjoyed to join NSW Sports Minister Alister Henskens, local members Alex Greenwich and Gabrielle Upton, and representatives of the AFL to announce the new female changeroom facilities at Trumper Oval last week.
Easts Bulldogs Junior AFL Club has received a $310,000 grant from NSW Office of Sport for the changeroom upgrade. Council has contributed an additional $40,000 and AFL NSW another $37,000.
The upgrade will include a complete renewal of the changerooms, toilets (including a new accessible public toilet), showers and umpiring areas to improve accessibility and safety for female members, those with a disability as well as the wider community.
“A lack of adequate changerooms is a real barrier to more girls playing sport,” said Mayor Susan Wynne.
“So we’re proud to help fund these accessible facilities – grassroots clubs are where it all begins, and this means we’ll see more local girls progressing to the highest levels of elite sport in the future.”
Sporting facilities at Trumper Oval include a cricket pitch and nets, Australian Rules oval and a turf athletic track.
