Hello there, I’m Shell, and I’ve been calling the Eastern Suburbs home since 1994 when I first set foot in this colourful corner of Sydney. It’s the heart of my story, now shared with my two wonderful kids.
My journey here has been as diverse as the Eastern Suburbs itself. For 15 years, I was immersed in the world of jewellery, showcasing my creations at Bondi and Paddington Markets. Each piece held a story, but life has a way of evolving.
In 2018, I discovered a new calling at OzHarvest. When I first joined as a volunteer, my initial project was to create the business plan for a Kids Cooking program. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see how it has come full circle. Now, within the Volunteer Team since 2021, I’ve had the opportunity to support the Kids Cooking For A Cause school holiday program, aimed at inspiring and empowering young minds, the future change-makers of Australia to not only explore the joy of cooking but also understand the importance of giving back to those in need. For me, being part of OzHarvest is more than just work; it’s a purposeful journey that goes beyond myself.
And yes, there’s a quirky twist to my OzHarvest journey – my job application involving a music video. Life is full of surprises, and I’ve always believed in embracing the unexpected
When I’m not contributing to the community or reminiscing about my market days, you’ll find me immersed in two of my great loves – surfing and ceramics. The ocean is my sanctuary, my happy place where I find both peace and inspiration.
Work or SAHM?
I work part time at OzHarvest as the NSW & ACT Volunteer Coordinator. I job share with another women and we work so well together. Job sharing gives me the flexibility to be at school events, school pick ups and taking my kids to appointments. I know when my job-share wife is on and I’m off, I can totally relax that she has the job covered! Working part-time is a great balance and also allows time for self-care, which is so important for a Mum. Put on your own oxygen mask first!
