Mondays Local Mum Katie Briance

Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east:

When we arrived in Sydney from the UK in 2002 Pyrmont was our playground. We lived there for 8 years before the call of the east allured us to Randwick. A couple of years later we’d outgrown our unit and decided to move to suburbia to get more space. We missed the east and still spent most of our time here so inevitably we moved back about 18 months ago. Coogee is now home and we love it here.

How many children:

One wonderful six year old boy called Hugo.

Favourite Park:

Parsley Bay. It has it all, playground, beach, beautiful old trees, a few little walking trails and a cute little café….happy days!

Favourite Beach:

That’s a tough one! So many to choose from, can I have a couple? Bronte for playing in the waves and Coogee for its laid back vibe.

Favourite kid friendly cafe:

Kürtosh in The Spot, it’s cosy, has great coffee and my son and I love sharing their yummy cakes.

Favourite Coffee Spot:

My morning ritual takes me to Coogee Bite Café. Their smooth coffee is delicious and the staff are really friendly.

Favourite date night place:

Moonlight Cinema in Centennial Park is always a winner.

Favourite Local Day Out Activity:

Watson’s Bay. Exploring the South Head walking trail up to the light house and stopping for a swim along the way at Camp Cove. The views to both the city and out to sea are fantastic.

Favourite Local Shop:

Hands down it’s Maloney’s Grocer on Coogee Bay Road. It is impossible to go in there for just one thing!

Favourite wet weather location:

The Randwick Ritz Cinema, I love the art deco feel and it is always showing something we want to see.

Describe an ideal day in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for you?

Go out for breakfast somewhere like Little Jack Horner and then head across the road for a swim in the ocean. Later on catch up with friends or have a wonder along the cliff top walk or up to Fred Hollows reserve. Then roll out my mat either at The Living Room or at home for a blissful yoga practice.

During the season, you can’t beat an afternoon or evening with friends at the SCG watching the Swans…..well after their terrible start this year maybe you can!

What areas of the east have you yet to explore much but would like to?

Hmmm…it would have to be Paddington. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes there that I have yet to enjoy.

Work or SAHM:

I am fortunate that my job is also my passion, most of the time it doesn’t feel like work. Inner Child Yoga runs kid’s yoga programs in childcare centers and schools. We also have an after school class on Mondays at 3.45pm at Sona Yoga in Randwick. Our classes are energetic, lively and fun. We create a safe and supportive environment for our kids to challenge themselves physically, mentally and emotionally.

Inner Child Yoga empowers children to connect with their true-self and love who they are. Find out more about us by visiting our website, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest

Motherly advice:

One of my favorite quotes by the Dalai Lama is also awesome motherly advice – “Give the ones you love wings to fly, roots to come back and reasons to stay”
