Caz Hoad

Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east:

I’ve lived here my entire life! Born in Bondi – my parents are Russian immigrants and arrived in 1979.

My mum was pregnant with me and I was born in September that year. Bondi was my neighbourhood for 18 years before we moved to Clovelly. I continued living at home until I was 23 when I decided to further my Graphic Design career and moved to London.

After 7 years, I returned home, a new husband in tow, and we bought an apartment in Randwick. 2 years later we moved to Maroubra. And 3 years later we moved to Little Bay! This is where you’ll find us now. So safe to say I’ve covered quite a bit of the East! J

How many children:

We have 1 gorgeous boy who is 2 and a half. After trying to conceive for 4 years with unexplained infertility, we went down the IVF road, and he worked first time! We are currently planning a 2nd one. They are just so amazing aren’t they!

Favourite Park:

Oooooh I’ve had my fair share of parks in the east! But would have to say Snape Park is pretty up there! And you can’t go wrong with Heffron’s Pedal Park. Such agreat way of teaching kids road safety.

Favourite Beach:

You would think my answer would be Bondi… but without a doubt, my favourite beach is my local. Congwong. Serene. Peaceful. Feels like paradise.

Favourite kid friendly cafe:

Love Shuk! Their outdoor and play area is great and gives us enough time to inhale our food!

Favourite Coffee Spot:

Would you believe I don’t drink coffee?! I don’t know how I function but my natural energy levels get me through. However I do have a favourite drink. My beloved Summer Frappe from Pool Café in Maroubra.

Favourite date night place:

My husband and I love our food and have always played an active role in the Sydney food and restaurant scene. We explore a new place every date night. We have a bit of a restaurant bucket list (literally!) so we refer to that and choose based on what cuisine we feel like. And whether it’s a quiet
night or an all nighter!

Favourite Local Day Out Activity:

Usually it’s wherever the day takes us! I’m not much of a fitness fan – so really enjoy the days we check out a market or festival, have breakfast together (always Pool Café in Maroubra!), go play in the park or catch up with friends.

Favourite Local Shop:

Is food considered a ‘shop’? If so, Bare Grill in Surry Hills. Hands down the best burgers in the East. Oh heck, in Sydney!!!

Favourite wet weather location:

Hahaha! It would have to be Westfield Eastgardens! You’ll always find me there at some stage during a rainy day. Or home sweet home.

Describe an ideal day in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for you?

Sun is out. It’s not too hot. I have no work to do. My family head out for breakfast (can you guess where? Hahaha!). A stroll down by the water, followed by fun at the park or heading to a carnival or market. Return home for a long day nap and make pizza with our boy. Then the beloved grandparents arrive to take over for the evening as my husband head out to explore another restaurant on our bucket list. Bellies full and many cocktails later, we return home to the couch. And next thing we know, we find ourselves asleep on it at 4 in the morning!

What area of the east have you yet to explore much but would like to?

I’ve pretty much explored it all. Having gone to school in the Vaucluse/Rose Bay area, I have a connection to pretty much the entire span of the East. Because it is all so familiar. And this is why I love calling it home.

Work or SAHM:

WAHM! Hahaha! I’m a work at home mum! I run 2 full time businesses (I don’t sleep!) My graphic design studio ‘Cazmic Design’ and my 1 year old baby ‘Silver Stork’ – curating bespoke care packages for new mums and mums to be, filled with handpicked items to suit their individual needs. The business has grown quickly in the 1 year it’s been operating and so so many exciting things in the pipeline! Hoping I can keep up! And not sure how I plan on adding another bub to the mix but hey, we just do it right?!

Motherly advice:

Mum guilt is real. We all experience it. But don’t let it get you down. Life is challenging and complicated. Don’t stress. Do your best and forget the rest. And one very important thing, that is the central foundation of Silver Stork, is SELF CARE and SELF LOVE. Love yourself and the rest will follow. Because taking care of yourself is part of taking care of your kids.
