Local Randwick mum Kate Messiter has created a great app called KidShoeFit which helps parents accurately fit their child’s shoe in EU, UK or US sizing she talks to Eastern Suburbs Mums about her new business venture and also her life as a mum in the eastern suburbs.

Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east:

15 years. About half that time in Rose Bay/Bellevue Hill, and the other half in Coogee/Randwick.

I love both areas for different reasons.

How many children:

Two super perfect ones. No, not really. But I love them anyway.

Favourite Park:

I don’t know how many hours I spent supervising toddlers at Lyne Park in Rose Bay… but it was a lot. It’s a lovely park, but it’s also nice to be past “the park” stage. These days, we walk our dog Poppy to Bangor Park or we take the kids bikes to Randwick Environment Park.

Favourite Beach:

Bronte is pretty special. I train with Eastside Crew there a few mornings each week and it’s magic. As a family, however, we always gravitate towards Maroubra. I have two surf tragics in my family, so I end up doing a lot of supervising/gesturing from the sand.

Favourite kid friendly cafe:

Four Frogs Creperie at The Spot is always a success. The Globe at Coogee is also a popular choice, the mango frappes are a big drawcard.

Favourite Coffee Spot:

My husband is the coffee officiando in our household. He has tried just about every café in the East. Gustos at Coogee is a regular haunt, as is Café Japone. I am yet to discover the perfect Chai Latte, so I’m open to suggestions.

Favourite date night place:

Dates nights are a rare thing, but we managed to get out to The Spanish Fly at The Spot last night and it was perfect.

Favourite Local Day Out Activity:

It’s only held once a year but The Spot Festival in Randwick is fantastic. I love a good street fair!

Favourite Local Shop:

Definitely The Revamp Rooms and The Spot2Be (technically two shops, but under one roof) – those ladies are first class.

We also love Pinnochios at The Spot – you can find us there most Saturday evenings.

Favourite wet weather location:

We love The Ritz Cinema at The Spot, and SkyZone is always a lot of fun. Neither of those locations are exactly top secret though, so we get to share the great indoors with the many many many families of the Eastern Suburbs on rainy days!

Describe an ideal day in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for you?

I probably wouldn’t stray too far from home. A family trip to Maroubra Beach with an Acai bowl for breakfast, followed by some skating and scootering out the front of our house with the Canberra Street gang, followed by a stroll up to Pinnochios for dinner and a movie at The Ritz.

Work or SAHM:

By day, I’m a lawyer. But I have recently started an exciting new venture of my own. I have launched an iPad app, borne out of my love of online shopping and dislike of queues at the local shoe store (especially around back to school time). The app takes measurements of your kids feet on the iPad screen and then generates their shoe size in EU, UK and US sizing. It’s called KidShoeFit and can be downloaded from the App Store. I launched the app late last year and the response has been amazing.

Motherly advice :

None! I don’t know what I’m doing either! You should definitely start using KidShoeFit to measure your kids feet though. It’s going to change your life!

You can download the KidShoeFit app now.
