Got cupboards overflowing with clothes the kids have outgrown, toys that haven’t been played with for months, or books that are ready for a new reader?

Or perhaps you simply love the thrill of finding a great second-hand bargain.

The Garage Sale Trail Flea Market is coming to Waverley on Saturday 14 November 2026, bringing together local buyers and sellers for a morning of pre-loved fashion, toys, books, homewares and hidden treasures.

Held at Guya Courtyard, the market runs from 9am to 12.30pm and is all about giving good things a second life.

Turn Your Clutter Into Someone Else’s Treasure

For families, it’s amazing how quickly things accumulate.

Kids grow out of clothes, move on from toys and finish books, while cupboards somehow continue filling up with things that are still perfectly good but simply aren’t being used anymore.

The Garage Sale Trail is a chance to do something useful with them.

As the saying goes, one person’s “I don’t need this anymore” might be someone else’s “Where have you been all my life?”

Local residents can book a stall, clear out some space at home and make a little extra cash at the same time.

And if you’re shopping rather than selling, it’s a great opportunity to hunt for affordable children’s clothes, toys, books and household items while supporting other people in the local community.

A Great Lesson in Sustainability for Kids

There’s also a bigger message behind the day.

Buying and selling second-hand keeps usable products in circulation for longer and helps reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill.

It’s a simple way for families to introduce children to the idea of a circular economy — where we reuse, repair, share and resell things rather than automatically throwing them away and buying something new.

You could even get the kids involved before the market.

Ask them to go through their bedrooms and choose toys, games, books or clothes they no longer use. If you’re holding a stall, older kids might enjoy helping set prices, arranging the table, talking to customers and keeping track of their sales.

It turns a household declutter into a mini lesson in sustainability, money and entrepreneurship.

More Than Just a Flea Market

The Garage Sale Trail Flea Market will run alongside the Waverley Repair Cafe and workshops in Visible Textile Mending.

It’s all part of encouraging our community to think differently about the things we own.

Instead of automatically replacing something that’s damaged, could it be repaired?

Instead of throwing away clothes we no longer wear, could someone else use them?

And before buying something brand new, could we find a perfectly good pre-loved version instead?

Want to Sell?

If you’ve been promising yourself you’ll finally tackle that wardrobe, garage or toy cupboard, this could be the motivation you need.

Waverley residents can book a stall for $20, with the fee reimbursed to people who book a stall and attend on the day.

There are a few important conditions.

The market is strictly for second-hand items only. New products cannot be sold, and this is a community event rather than a commercial market.

Stallholders must also be Waverley residents and need to book their stall in advance.

Make sure you read the stallholder information and rules on the booking page before registering.

Come Along and Hunt for a Treasure

You don’t need to have a stall to enjoy the morning.

Bring the kids, have a browse and see what you can discover. There could be clothes ready for their next owner, a pile of children’s books, forgotten toys, interesting homewares or one of those unexpected finds you didn’t know you needed until you spotted it.

And unlike buying something new, every second-hand purchase comes with a little history attached.
