Looking for something fun, free, low-stress and family friendly to do with the kids this spring? Saturday at the Park by Waverley Council is just the thing.

Perfect for parents who want a relaxing couple of hours outdoors without too much planning, this event combines the simple joys of community, nature, and a few treats for the kids.

What’s happening

From 11am to 1pm each Saturday for four weeks, some of Waverley’s most beloved parks are hosting all kinds of goodies:

  • Free gelato to enjoy – and free coffee for the grown-ups.
  • Face-painting for the kids — always a hit, whether they want to be butterflies, superheroes or something sparkly.
  • An array of cuddly farmyard animals visiting from Golden Ridge Animal Farm, so the little ones can meet and perhaps feed them.
  • Plus, there’s a bonus for green thumbs: free seeds from Grow It Local to take home and plant in your veggie garden.

When and where

  • Saturday 4 October, 10am at Varna Park, Clovelly
  • Saturday 18 October, 11am at Bronte Park, Bronte Beach
  • Saturday 25 October, 10am at Barracluff Park, Bondi
  • Saturday 1 November, 11am at Kimberley Reserve, Vaucluse

Why parents will love it

  • It’s free and easy: no tickets, no big cost, just show up.
  • It’s outdoors, so fresh air, open space and room for kids to run around.
  • It gives you time to connect – with other parents, with nature and even with your own peace and quiet (well, as peaceful as two hours with kids can be).

Tips to make the most of it

  • Bring a picnic blanket so you can spread out and relax.
  • Sunscreen, hat, water bottle – quick essentials for outdoor fun.
  • Invite friends! It’s always more fun for the kids (and more relaxing for mums) in a group.

If you’re looking to make a Saturday a little bit more special, Saturday at the Park is one of those perfect “just-enough” outings: good for your heart, fun for the kids and easy on you. See you in the park!
