Every winter, Bondi transforms.

The summer crowds may fade, but in their place comes something completely different — a vibrant burst of creativity, entertainment and community spirit that has made Bondi Festival one of Sydney’s most anticipated annual events.

What started as a local arts and cultural celebration has grown into a major winter festival that attracts families, locals and visitors from across Sydney and beyond. Each year, Bondi Festival brings the beachfront to life with live performances, family entertainment, comedy, music, immersive art, food experiences and unforgettable winter attractions.

And perhaps the most iconic part of all? Ice skating by the beach.

Few things capture the unique spirit of Bondi Festival quite like gliding around an outdoor ice rink with the ocean just metres away. Add in the famous Ferris Wheel overlooking Bondi Beach, live music drifting through the Pavilion and a packed calendar of events, and it’s easy to see why the festival has become such a beloved annual tradition.

One of the reasons locals love Bondi Festival so much is that no two years are ever exactly the same. Every festival introduces new performances, creative installations, pop-up experiences and family-friendly activities, while still keeping the relaxed beachside atmosphere that makes Bondi special.

Over the years, the festival has featured everything from award-winning theatre and cabaret to comedy shows, interactive art, cultural events, kids’ entertainment and outdoor dining experiences. Families can spend the day enjoying free activities and live performances, while parents can return in the evening for comedy, music or a night out with friends.

For many Eastern Suburbs families, Bondi Festival has become a regular part of the winter school holiday calendar — a chance to rug up, grab a hot chocolate and experience Bondi in a completely different way.

Unlike the laid-back beach culture of summer, winter in Bondi has its own energy: creative, playful and packed with community spirit.

With Bondi Pavilion and Bondi Park at the heart of the action, the festival continues to showcase the best of Sydney’s arts and entertainment scene while celebrating everything locals love about Bondi.
