If you’re looking for something fun to do on SUNDAY, 2 April 2023 consider attending the next Blak Markets at Bare Island, La Perouse, in Sydney’s southeast.
Running from 10am to 3pm, the market will feature a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony with a cultural dance performance and singing .
According to CEO of First Hand Solutions, Peter Cooley, it’s a day to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, the oldest continuing culture in the world. “It is also an excellent opportunity to buy unique gifts, knowing that 100 per cent of the profits will flow back into Aboriginal communities,” Peter said.
Aside from entertainment, bush-food and coffee, festival goers can visit a range of Blak Markets stalls selling authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Arts, crafts, clothing and accessories.
The Blak Markets, are held 4 times a year on Bare Island, Bidjigal Country within the Kamay-Botany Bay National Park with the support of Suncorp and Randwick City Council. The entry fee is $2.50 with children under five free.
