Tucked away at the corner of Old South Head Road and Warners Avenue, Barracluff Park is a local favourite in North Bondi and a great place to burn off some energy with the kids. Officially opened in 1910 and named after Alderman Barracluff of Waverley Council, the park is designed with families in mind.
The centrepiece is an inclusive playground that encourages imaginative play for children of all ages and abilities. A multi‑storey tower invites adventurous climbers and sliders, while ropes, nets, a fire pole and sensory puzzles provide plenty of tactile and musical play opportunities. Older kids and teens can head to the half multi‑use court, which includes a tennis wall, netball and basketball rings and handball markings. Seating and grassy areas offer space for a picnic or a breather between activities. Limited on‑street parking and a mobility parking bay are available, and there’s a timed off‑leash area for dogs.
Family tip: Visit in the morning or late afternoon to take advantage of the off‑leash hours and cooler temperatures. Bring a picnic blanket and let younger children explore the sensory equipment while older ones shoot hoops on the court.
Fitness tip: The multi‑use court and turf field aren’t just for kids – parents and fitness buffs can squeeze in a quick workout with friends. Grab a basketball or netball for some cardio, or meet up at dusk when the field lights come on for a game of touch footy.
Fun fact: Barracluff Park’s playground design reflects the park’s long history. It was one of Waverley’s early recreation reserves, officially opening over a century ago, yet it now boasts one of the area’s most inclusive play spaces.
