If you’re looking for a family day out these Spring School Holidays, Taronga Zoo Sydney has plenty happening to keep kids of all ages entertained.

Alongside more than 6,500 animals, families can catch a free PAW Patrol Kids Show featuring Chase and Marshall, meet some adorable new animal arrivals and enjoy more than 15 wildlife presentations and keeper talks throughout the day.

With so much included in general Zoo admission, it could easily become a full-day school holiday adventure.

Meet Chase and Marshall from PAW Patrol

For younger PAW Patrol fans, this could be the highlight of the holidays.

Chase and Marshall are coming to Taronga Zoo, appearing in a free PAW Patrol Kids Show on the Concert Lawns each day.

PAW Patrol daily times:

  • Kids Show – 10:30am
  • Character Meet & Greet – 11:15am
  • Kids Show – 12:15pm

The shows are included with Zoo admission and Taronga Zoo Friends membership, so families can combine a morning with Chase and Marshall with an afternoon exploring the Zoo.

Catch a Wildlife Show

One of the great things about a Taronga day is that there’s always something happening as you make your way around the Zoo.

Families can plan their day around some of Taronga’s popular wildlife presentations, including:

  • Seals for the Wild – 11am and 2pm
  • Free Flight Birds Presentation – 12pm and 3pm
  • Reptiles Alive Show – 11:45am and 2:30pm
  • Plus 13 interactive keeper talks taking place around the Zoo.

These presentations are a great opportunity for kids to see the animals in action while learning more about their behaviour, habitats and conservation.

Meet Taronga’s Adorable New Arrivals

Spring also means babies – and there are some particularly cute new faces to look out for at Taronga.

Families visiting these holidays can keep an eye out for:

  • Prince and Nickel, two Mediterranean donkeys
  • A playful flock of lambs and goat kids
  • Pea, a newly arrived quokka
  • Bira, a Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat joey
  • Five koala joeys beginning to venture outside their mothers’ pouches

For animal-loving kids, simply trying to spot all the new arrivals could become an adventure of its own.

Explore More Than 6,500 Animals

Of course, the biggest attraction remains the Zoo itself.

Taronga is home to more than 6,500 animals, giving families the chance to spend the day wandering through its different habitats and discovering wildlife from Australia and around the world.

Families wanting an even closer experience can also book one of Taronga’s Animal Encounters, offering opportunities to learn more about selected animals and their keepers.

Make It an Even Bigger Adventure

If your kids want something beyond a traditional day at the Zoo, there are several additional experiences available.

Wild Ropes Treetops Adventure takes the adventure into the trees with a high ropes course overlooking the Zoo and Sydney Harbour. It operates daily from 10am to 4pm, with experiences from $27.

For kids aged 5 to 11, the Zoo Adventures Holiday Program offers a full-day school holiday experience from $75.

Older animal lovers aged 8 to 17 can take things further with Keeper for a Day, a behind-the-scenes experience offering a glimpse into what working with wildlife is really like, with prices from $170.

And for the ultimate Taronga experience, families can turn their Zoo visit into an overnight adventure with Roar and Snore or a stay at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga.

Is a Taronga Zoo Friends Membership Worth Considering?

If your family visits Taronga more than once a year, it may also be worth comparing ticket prices with a Taronga Zoo Friends membership.

Membership includes unlimited entry to both Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo, along with member discounts, benefits and reciprocal entry offers at participating zoos around Australia.

Family membership starts from $140 per adult plus a joining fee, with children under 16 from the same household included.

ESM Tip: Make a Full Day of It

There’s a lot happening, so rather than trying to squeeze everything into a couple of hours, allow plenty of time.

Check the presentation schedule before you arrive and pick a few must-sees. If you have younger PAW Patrol fans, you could start with the 10:30am Chase and Marshall show, stay for the 11:15am meet-and-greet, then continue exploring the Zoo and catching wildlife presentations throughout the afternoon.

Pack hats, sunscreen, water bottles and comfortable walking shoes – there’s plenty of ground to cover!
