Winter School Holiday Drama Workshops at Ensemble Theatre:

Looking for a school holiday activity that will inspire creativity, build confidence and keep young minds engaged away from screens? This winter, Ensemble Theatre is inviting young people to step into the spotlight with the launch of Ensemble Youth Studio’s Winter School Holiday Drama Workshop Program.

Designed for children and teenagers aged 5–15, these exciting workshops offer a unique opportunity to learn from professional theatre artists inside one of Australia’s most celebrated theatre companies. Whether your child is a budding performer, a natural storyteller or simply looking to try something new, there’s a workshop designed to spark their imagination.

Running from 6–17 July at Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli, the program features four age-specific workshops across two exciting weeks:

Week One (6–10 July)

🐾 Animal Antics (Ages 5–8)
Perfect for imaginative young performers who love animals, movement and creative play.

A magical adventure where young performers create fantastical characters and bring enchanted stories to life.

Week Two (13–17 July)

🦸 Friend or Foe? (Ages 8–12)
Explore heroes, villains and unforgettable characters through storytelling and performance.

🎬 Hollywood Heroes (Ages 12–15)
A cinematic-inspired workshop for older students who love movies, acting and character creation.

Throughout the program, participants will develop acting, storytelling, improvisation and communication skills while building confidence and making new friends in a supportive and encouraging environment.

A highlight of every workshop is the opportunity to perform on the iconic Ensemble Theatre stage for family and friends at the end of the week, giving students a taste of what it’s like to be part of a professional theatre production.

Roar, Cast Spells and Take Centre Stage These School Holidays at Ensemble Theatre!

Looking for an imaginative and engaging school holiday activity that will keep your child entertained while building confidence and creativity? This winter, Ensemble Youth Studio invites young people to step into a world of adventure, storytelling and performance with two exciting drama workshops running from 6–10 July.

Held at the iconic Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli, these week-long workshops give children the opportunity to learn from professional teaching artists, make new friends and experience the thrill of performing on a professional stage.

Animal Antics (Ages 5–8)

Perfect for younger performers with big imaginations, Animal Antics takes children on a playful theatrical journey inspired by the animal kingdom.

Through drama games, movement activities, storytelling and creative play, participants will transform into their favourite creatures, create animal characters and explore exciting stories together. Along the way, they’ll develop confidence, communication skills and teamwork while having plenty of fun.

Designed specifically for younger children, this workshop provides a supportive environment where creativity and imagination can run wild.

Witches, Warlocks & Wizards (Ages 8–12)

Calling all aspiring spellcasters, magical creatures and fantasy fans!

In Witches, Warlocks & Wizards, young performers will enter a world of enchantment, mystery and adventure as they create magical characters and bring fantastical stories to life.

Participants will explore improvisation, character development, storytelling and performance skills while working collaboratively to build their own magical world. Whether they’re casting spells, brewing potions or embarking on epic quests, students will have the opportunity to unleash their creativity and discover the power of performance.

A Professional Theatre Experience

Heroes, Villains and Epic Stories Await at Ensemble Youth Studio

This winter school holidays, young performers are invited to discover the excitement of theatre through two action-packed drama workshops at Ensemble Youth Studio.

Running from 13–17 July at Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli, these workshops are designed to inspire creativity, build confidence and give young people the opportunity to experience the magic of performance inside a professional theatre.

Whether your child loves superheroes, movie adventures, dramatic storytelling or creating unforgettable characters, Week 2 has something for every young performer.

Friend or Foe? (Ages 8–12)

Every great story needs a heroβ€”and a villain.

In Friend or Foe? participants will explore some of theatre’s most fascinating relationships as they create dynamic characters, dramatic conflicts and memorable stories.

Through improvisation, role play, character-building exercises and collaborative storytelling, students will discover what makes heroes heroic, villains villainous and friendships truly unforgettable.

This workshop encourages creativity, teamwork and imagination while introducing participants to key performance and storytelling skills.

Hollywood Heroes (Ages 12–18)

For older students with a passion for film, theatre and iconic characters, Hollywood Heroes offers the chance to step into the world of cinematic storytelling.

Participants will explore the qualities that make heroes compelling, examining character development, performance techniques and storytelling structures inspired by some of Hollywood’s most memorable films.

Working with professional teaching artists, students will develop acting skills, build confidence and create scenes inspired by the heroes and adventures that have captivated audiences around the world.

Whether they’re seasoned performers or completely new to drama, participants will be challenged and encouraged in a supportive creative environment.

Learn Inside a Professional Theatre

As part of Ensemble Youth Studio, participants gain a unique behind-the-scenes experience within one of Australia’s longest-running professional theatre companies.

Led by experienced industry professionals, the workshops focus on creativity, collaboration and confidence-building, while providing a fun and engaging holiday activity away from screens.

Take the Stage

At the end of the week, all participants will have the opportunity to perform on the Ensemble Theatre stage in a special sharing for family and friends.

It’s a wonderful chance for students to celebrate their achievements, showcase their creativity and experience the excitement of performing in a professional theatre environment.
