Celebrating a Bondi Trailblazer

Pauline Menczer is a pioneer, rule breaker and proud Bondi local whose impact reaches far beyond the waves. A world champion surfer and inductee into the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame, Pauline has long been an outspoken advocate for women in sport.

Throughout her career, she has challenged inequality and stood up against sexism, misogyny and homophobia — paving the way for future generations of female athletes. She also continues to inspire those living with autoimmune diseases, sharing her own experiences with honesty and resilience.

This International Women’s Day conversation will offer a rare opportunity to hear Pauline reflect on her journey, her challenges, and her passion for creating change.

In Conversation with Michaela Kalowski

The evening will feature an inspiring discussion led by Michaela Kalowski, Sydney-based literary interviewer and curator of writers’ and ideas festivals.

Michaela has interviewed some of the world’s most recognised thinkers and creatives, including Margaret Atwood, Tim Minchin, Turia Pitt and Markus Zusak. She previously curated ABC Radio National’s Big Weekend of Books and continues to host and produce literary events and conversations across Sydney.

Together, Pauline and Michaela will explore themes of resilience, equality and empowerment — perfectly aligned with the spirit of International Women’s Day.

Supporting Women in Crisis

While this is a free event, attendees are encouraged — in the spirit of International Women’s Day — to consider making a donation to the Lokahi Foundation.

The Lokahi Foundation is an Australian charity dedicated to supporting women and children who are experiencing or have escaped domestic and family violence. Importantly, 100% of donations go directly towards helping women in crisis access the support and resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Join Waverley Council on 6 March 2026 for an uplifting evening celebrating leadership, courage and community — and to honour a Bondi icon whose story continues to inspire women in Waverley and beyond.
