One of our very own Eastern Suburbs talents is making waves in the art world. Local student Oliver Simpkin has been named a finalist in the prestigious Little Sydney Lives 2025 photography competition — for the second time!

Little Sydney Lives is part of the Sydney Life Photography Prize, showcasing Sydney’s youngest photographers aged 5 to 12 years. Each year, children from across the city are invited to submit photos that capture the world through their eyes. The results are always vibrant, creative, and full of fresh perspectives.

Twice a finalist

Oliver’s achievement is even more special because this marks the second time he has reached the finals, proving his growing skill and unique artistic vision. To stand out among so many entries is no small feat — to do it twice is a remarkable accomplishment.

Recognition from the Lord Mayor

Oliver’s success didn’t go unnoticed. At the announcement of the finalists, City of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore personally thanked Oliver for his participation and congratulated him on his outstanding creativity. Her acknowledgment highlights just how much these young artists contribute to Sydney’s cultural landscape.

About Little Sydney Lives

The competition celebrates children’s creativity and provides them with a platform to have their work exhibited in the city. Finalist images are displayed in a public outdoor gallery, giving Sydneysiders the chance to see the world through the lens of its youngest residents.

From quirky street scenes to heartfelt family portraits and playful snapshots of daily life, each photograph tells a story that reminds us how children see beauty in the everyday.

A community to be proud of

We couldn’t be prouder of Oliver and his success. His talent reflects the creativity and passion that thrive in the Eastern Suburbs community, and we’re excited to see where his photography journey takes him next.

✨Congratulations, Oliver, on once again capturing the magic of Sydney — and for receiving recognition from the Lord Mayor herself!
