Heffron Park’s New Netball Stadium Opens with a Celebration of Community Sport

A carnival-like atmosphere marked the opening of the 2025 Randwick Netball season—complete with music, dancing, and thousands of spectators—at the brand-new all-weather outdoor netball stadium at Heffron Park, Maroubra.

The grand opening, set to the tune of Katy Perry’s Firework and the energy of thousands of fans, was a celebration not only of a new season, but of decades of community spirit, dedication, and grassroots sporting achievement.

The event also officially unveiled Randwick City Council’s newly completed netball stadium—a standout feature of the Heffron Park Masterplan. The facility includes six covered courts with tiered spectator seating, providing year-round protection from the elements and a much-needed upgrade for the largest sport in Randwick City.

Each Saturday during winter, the park welcomes more than 10,000 visitors, with over 4,800 players participating in Randwick Netball Association competitions. The new stadium offers a safe, modern and inclusive space for players of all ages and levels.

The opening also paid tribute to the many legends who have emerged from Randwick Netball, with commemorative plaques and dedicated training posts forming the new Diamonds Posts Walk of Fame. These posts honour six elite athletes who began their journey with Randwick Netball, including Marcia Ella-Duncan, Cheryl McCormack, and Amy Parmenter.

The stadium sits alongside a wall recognising the tireless work of the Association’s volunteers—those who have helped make the sport accessible and welcoming to thousands of local girls and women over the years.

Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker welcomed the new facility as a major boost for community sport:

“Netball brings thousands of people together every week and helps strengthen our community. I’m proud that Council can support the Randwick Netball Association with the infrastructure it needs to thrive.”

Construction of additional amenities—including new changerooms and toilets—is expected to begin in August 2025.
