A Randwick City Council library program for young children has been recognised as a top innovative service, at an awards ceremony held last week.

Randwick City Library won a 2024 NSW Public Libraries Association (PLA) Award for Innovation in Outreach Services, for its monthly program Spark in the Park.

The free program provides children up to the age of five with a range of themed activities in local parks across the Randwick Local Government Area, including storytelling, singing, and playtime.

The NSW PLA is the peak body for public libraries in the state. Its Innovation in Outreach Services Award recognises and celebrates libraries that are “pushing the envelope and challenging the ways we reach our communities”, according to the NSW PLA.

Spark in the Park began in 2022 with the aim to promote early literacy and foster a love of reading from a young age. The next Spark in the Park will be on Wednesday 4 December 2024, at Randwick Community Centre, 27 Munda Street in Randwick.
