Don’t miss Matriark Theatre’s amazing show Urza and the Song in the Dark and their Shadow Adventures workshops, Shopfront Theatre’s Stagecraft and Design Skills for young people, and a host of great art workshops including a class on creating and curating a mini gallery. Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are also bringing their first ever acting classes to the Eastern Suburbs for all you budding performers!

Urza and the Song in the Dark DATE: Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October The adventure of a lifetime told in shadow and song! When Urza finds herself lost underground, a mysterious song leads her on a journey of epic proportions. Live music, physical theatre and puppets combine to tell this amazing story! |
Shadow AdventuresDATE: Friday 7 and Saturday 8 October Join the creative team behind Urza and the Song In the Dark in these hands-on 90 minute workshops. Learn about Matriark Theatre’s unique approach to shadow puppetry combining physical performance and shadow play to bring to life a world of your own creation. |
Stagecraft and Design DATE: Tuesday/Wednesday 4-5 October Technical theatre is one of the most creative and exciting aspects of any theatrical production. Lights, sound, set design, costumes and props make up the magic of theatre! Join expert theatre technicians from Shopfront Arts Co-Op to learn how to analyse a script; research and design exciting lighting, set and sound. See how how all these elements come together to produce an unforgettable theatre experience! |
ATYP Drama WorkshopsDATE: Monday 26 – Friday 30 September With a list of alumni that include Nicole Kidman, Toni Collette, Rose Byrne, Abbie Cornish and, of course, Rebel Wilson, Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) know how to create and deliver drama programs for aspiring young performers and creatives. ATYP’s high-quality, week-long courses give young people the opportunity to work together to create their own show, express their own views, and perform it to an audience. |
Create a Mini Gallery DATE: Tuesday 4 October Create and curate a mini gallery space, inspired by the Waverley Art prize. As gallery Curators, students must design the theme of the exhibition and the style of artworks to include inside the gallery before getting to work making the artworks. Students will create two paintings on mini canvases, and a sculpture, using modelling clay, to display on a hand crafted mini plinth. |
Mixed Media MadnessDATE: Wednesday 5 October In conjunction with the Waverley Art Prize, come and explore the work of exhibiting artists as well as leading Australian painters such as Margaret Olley. After a tour of the Waverley Art Prize, Contemporary Artist Genevieve Felix Reynolds will guide young artists through creating their own works mixed media artworks utilising collage and painting. Learn about composition, contrast, colour and pattern in this session. |
