Held every two years, the Waverley Community Awards shine a light on those who demonstrate generosity, leadership, and a strong commitment to community service. This is your chance to acknowledge the selfless efforts of community members who contribute their time and skills to making Waverley a better place to live, work, and connect.

How to Nominate

Submitting a nomination is simple. Follow these steps to recognize a deserving individual or group:

  1. Complete the nomination form, available on the Waverley Council website.
  2. Read the nomination guidelines and eligibility criteria to ensure your nominee qualifies.
  3. Provide supporting documentation, such as photos, news articles, or testimonials.
  4. Submit your nomination by 5pm on Friday, March 14, 2025.

Award Categories

The Waverley Community Awards feature a variety of categories, ensuring recognition for a wide range of contributions:

  • Strengthening Community Award – Celebrating individuals who have made an inspirational impact in the areas of community services, wellbeing, and safety.
  • Community Life Award – Honoring contributions in sport, arts, recreation, or culture.
  • Working Together Award – Recognizing the outstanding efforts of a community group.
  • Second Nature Champion Award – Commending individuals who have significantly contributed to environmental sustainability.
  • Youth Award – Acknowledging young leaders (ages 12-24) who inspire others within the Waverley community.
  • Community Leader Award – Bestowed at Council’s discretion, this award recognizes individuals who have made a lasting and significant impact over an extended period of time.

Important Eligibility Criteria

Before submitting a nomination, please review the following key eligibility requirements:

  • Nominees must live in the Waverley Local Government Area (LGA) and/or have served the Waverley community.
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted; however, community groups may be nominated by a group member.
  • Nominations are only for voluntary contributions, except in the case of the Strengthening Community Award, where professionals demonstrating outstanding contributions beyond their paid role may be considered.
  • Awards will not be granted posthumously, except for the Community Leader Award, which may be awarded posthumously to those who have passed away within the last four years.
  • Current Waverley Councillors, full-time Council staff, sitting State and Federal Politicians, and Vice-Regal Officers are not eligible.
  • Previous winners cannot be nominated in the same category.
  • Nominees for the Youth Award must be under 25 years of age as of December 31, 2024.
