Double Bay · ESM editorial pick

If you prefer a smaller setting with individual attention, Beyond Pilates is worth exploring. Founder Lara Volpe is a trained physiotherapist and Pilates instructor who has previously featured in ESM’s Local Mum series. Her studio combines physiotherapy knowledge with Pilates instruction, with sessions designed around individual needs rather than a single workout for everyone.

The studio’s website describes private sessions and small-group classes of up to four people, using equipment such as reformers, the Wunda Chair and springboard, as well as mat-based work. Areas of focus include prenatal and postnatal exercise, injury management, strength and fitness. Contact Lara to discuss your goals and confirm the current location, timetable and best starting point.

Location: Double Bay; confirm the current studio address when booking.

What’s on offer: Private and small-group Pilates, including prenatal, postnatal and injury management options.

Finding the right Pilates class for you

Start with what will help you attend regularly: a convenient location, a suitable class time and a teaching style you enjoy. Ask whether a session uses mats or reformers, how large the group is, and what support is available for beginners. If you are pregnant, returning after birth or managing a health condition, discuss your needs with the instructor and your treating health professional before starting.
