Families in Kensington have a brand-new reason to head outdoors, with the exciting upgrade of Wills Reserve Playground now officially complete.

Located on the corner of Duke Street and Balfour Road, the upgraded playground has been transformed into a vibrant, family-friendly space that caters to kids of all ages — and it’s already proving a hit with local families.

What’s New at Wills Reserve?
The upgraded playground now features:

  • A carousel and seesaw

  • A brand-new swing set, including a toddler seat

  • A four square handball court and hopscotch game

  • New soft-fall surfacing, paving, and lawn

  • A shaded picnic table for parents and carers to relax

The revitalisation came after feedback from local residents who highlighted ageing equipment and worn-out rubber surfaces. The result? A safer, more engaging play space that reflects what the community really wanted.

Deputy Mayor of Randwick, Councillor Marea Wilson, said the project showcases Council’s commitment to improving public spaces.
“The local community’s input was invaluable in shaping the improvements of the Wills Reserve playground,” she said. “We are thrilled to provide a safer, more enjoyable space for children and families to gather and play.”

Designed with Families in Mind
Community consultation held between May and June 2024 helped guide the playground’s final design. Local parents called for:

  • Equipment suitable for various age groups

  • Safer toddler-friendly areas

  • More seating and shaded spots

  • Better accessibility

Now, Wills Reserve ticks all those boxes — offering a space that’s as fun as it is functional.

So pack some snacks, grab the kids, and check out Kensington’s refreshed local gem. It’s the perfect spot for an after-school play, weekend picnic or catch-up with friends.
