Hi Mums, I’m Kate! I’m an Eastern Suburbs mum of 2 toddlers who lives and breathes everything kid-friendly in the Eastern Suburbs. I share my family’s adventures on our instagram account @PossumPlaytime and will soon be launching an app which will showcase the best playgrounds, activities, events & kid-friendly eateries our area has to offer.

Where and how long have you lived in Sydney’s east?

I was born in Melbourne, but have spent most of my life in Sydney, moving to the Eastern Suburbs in my early 20’s. Out of all the places I’ve lived, the east is my favourite. It has so much to offer while still keeping that real sense of community.

Three words that describe what it’s like to live in the eastern suburbs?

“the perfect life” – how could you not love the east? The best beaches, cafes, restaurants and playgrounds

How many children?

I have 2 cheeky toddler boys – Ari is 4 and Hart is 3.

Favourite Park?

This is such a tough question for me to answer, as we travel to new playgrounds every week. My boys currently love Inglis Park, Randwick as they love climbing. I also love it as it has a great selection of cafes so close by!

Favourite Beach?

We can’t go past Parsley Bay. It is so handy to have a beach, playground, cafe and walking track all in one. It is beautiful, and you can easily spend the entire day there!

Favourite kids friendly cafe?

Our favourite kid-friendly cafe would be Archies, Dover Heights. The food is great, the service is fast, the coffee is outstanding, and they have a few kids toys kept out the back.

Favourite Coffee Spot?

My favourite coffee spot is Ruby’s Diner, Waverley. If I am feeling like indulging, the Milo Milkshake with a shot of coffee is my go-to!

Favourite date night place?

Anywhere in Double Bay. We love trying new places.

Where in the east have you yet to explore and would like to go?

This summer, now that my kids are a little older, we’ll be exploring the coastal walks more! First stop will be the newly reopened Diamond Bay cliff walk.

What would you like to see improve in the eastern suburbs?

If I could dream up anything for the east, it would be more (free) parking and another local public high school.

Favourite Local Shop?

For myself, I love @PetiteChou_ for the chicest jewellery and accessories, and for my boys we love @ToluAustralia for beachwear!

Favourite wet weather location?

If it’s raining, chances are you’ll find us at Thomas Hogan Reserve with our gumboots on. My boys love getting messy, and Thomas Hogan becomes the ultimate mud pit.

Favourite Local family Weekend Activity?

We love Friday nights at The Field at Easts Rugby club for family night, where the boys can have their faces painted and run wild with their friends. You’ll also find us exploring local playgrounds and beaches soaking up family time.

Work or SAHM?

I have been a SAHM since Ari was born, and have loved every minute of it. I am currently working on a startup and will be launching my first app early next year to help simplify planning your toddlers’ schedules. The app will highlight the best activities, playgrounds, events & kid-friendly eateries that the east has to offer.

Motherly advice?

Get to know the other parents in the playgrounds you like to visit. Playground visits are so much more exciting if you have someone to grab a coffee and have a chat with, and I’ve met some great local  mums this way! We are all going through this motherhood journey together.
